New for summer 2010, ActionQuest and our sister academic programs Sea|mester and Arc, have teamed up to offer a 28-day cultural odyssey aboard our 112-ft schooner that will sail from Athens, Greece to Rome, Italy. Along the way students will have the opportunity to study the Classics 'up-close' as they travel in the wake of Odysseus. Other destinations include Delos, Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, Sicily, Pompeii and Naples.
The expedition is designed around a core academic, real-time curriculum, one that truly utilizes our world and our environment to bring the subject to life and ignite a passion for learning. Learn more on our website at www.ArcAcademicExpeditions.com.
Aside from staying safe and having a lot of fun, what’s most important in a summer program?
At ActionQuest we believe that it’s the lasting impact that the experience can have, and the development of skills that are usable throughout life.
We recently surveyed over 2000 alumni who joined us as far back as 1986 and asked them to reflect on their experience. The results are compelling and you can read more HERE
At ActionQuest, Lifeworks and Sea|mester, we are committed to doing our part in the preservation and sustainability of the environment. As we continue to grow and learn about good environmental practices, we have augmented our own ecological standards over the years.
In many of our program locations, the environmental management systems are not well established. As a result, we try to ensure that our waste is disposed of in responsible ways. Each year, ActionQuest collects all of the cardboard packaging from its annual dry food supply, along with all of the used batteries and waste oil each year, returns them to the US in a standard scheduled shipping container, and brings it to a certified recycling center. That’s over 600 pounds of cardboard and 400 batteries each year.
ActionQuest will continue to become greener as we introduce more environmentally friendly products and practices into our programs.
Our intention is to improve environmental awareness through what we teach and practice. Our impact is naturally lessened by our chosen mode of transport, sailing vessels. Aboard we encourage a philosophy of living simply and respecting our surroundings both physically and culturally. The vitality of our programs depends on the preservation of the places we visit, so we want to do all we can to minimize any negative impact.
We can't believe that summer 2009 is in the history books, and what a great summer it has been too! Our BVI trips ended on the 15th August and since the last flight departed the Tortola airport the AQ and Lifeworks staff have finally had a chance to reflect on their achievements.
We've already received many letters of thanks from 09 alumni and their parents so "Thanks" for the "Thanks" and we'll hope to see many of you next year for another fantastic program!
ActionQuest summer 2009 is underway with our flotilla in the British Virgin Islands and our 112ft yacht S/Y Argo plying the water of the Gulf of Thailand between Bangkok and Koh Samui. Our Blog page is now active and all vessels will be updating thier voyage blogs with text and images on a regular basis. well, actually the pirates got us to turn our 112-ft schooner S/Y Argo around before when we were half way across the Indian Ocean.
Argo was due to head to the Med in order to hook up with our AQ Crew for this year's Odysseus trip. We hoped for a US Naval escort to get into the Mediterranean through the piracy area but at last minute it wasn't available.
The Chinese symbol for Crisis is the same as the one for opportunity. For us the opportunities are many. The exotic Asian Gulf of Thailand will allow for a more tropical sailing experience. In addition, we’re also offering scuba certifications and a Tropical Marine Science course, taught by our Sea|mester staff aboard. And, for those who are ready and up for the adventure, we’ve got some news designed to put you over the top. The Odysseus voyage will come with a virtually free round trip ticket to Bangkok as we have lowered the tuition by $1500.00 to reflect the savings of sailing in Asia!

I feel as though I pushed myself to face challenges and overcome fears more than ever before. And I feel as though I might not have been able to do it were it not for the supportive ActionQuest environment. Thank you so much for the incredible opportunities and experiences that I have gained through ActionQuest over the past three years. They have altered my perspectives of both myself and the world around me.
