BVI: Session 1 - Wicked Good
Posted: Sun, Jun 19, 2011
Today we woke up at 6am to motor over to the Baths. Our boat had a great time jumping off the rocks, and went exploring in Devil’s Bay. Almost everyone went in the hollow rock, but Brook and I were too scared to go through the swim through. We spent a couple hours in Spanishtown. Lunch was full of delicious smoothies, burgers, cold drinks, and ice cream. We took full advantage of any store who had air conditioning. Once we left we sailed over to Vixen Point, where our boat helped raft all the other sailboats together. Dinner was full of beans and veggie burgers. We cooked enough beans for a small village. Tonight the DMs have 90 pages of reading due (yikes!!) The sunset was a stunning pink-orange. Right now we are cleaning dishes and listening to the younger boats dance and sing! I had a great day, can’t wait to go diving tomorrow!

First Rotation Day!
Our day started early as always, and after having a short breakfast we started our first dive (Vegas) with the help of the instructors and divemaster. It was incredible, and after that we started practicing wakeboarding and also driving the dinghy which was very interesting and also kind of funny to save the chicklets from “drowning.” Then we had lunch and after we headed to the beach and learned how to windsurf, which is much harder than it looks, but still it’s an amazing experience. Also the divemasters of our ship were helping out assisting the diving instructors which were teaching us, the Vegas, how to dive.

The weather was sunny with scattered clouds. 6:30 am wake up. 6:50 breakfast. 7:30 begin sail. 12- broke the strawberry jam. 12:05 PB+Js. (sorry for breakfast we had eggs and blueberry muffin cake- excellent job by Jon and Leah- thank you). Ongoing sail. Still sunny. Arrived at beautiful cove around 3:30. Divemasters did so much work. Showers around 5. Beautiful weather. That’s all. Good night and good luck. Live well and prosper.

Today was the first day the crew spent actually sailing. We got up at 6:30 after a rainy night to prepare to leave the dock. Once we were ready we had a dock chat with Mike. Afterwards we cast off. I was at the helm to guide us to our destination. We had a lunch of PB+J. Eventually we reached the caves at Norman Island, where our ten divemasters did their checkout dive, and the rest of us snorkeled with some Vega students. Anyways everyone was pretty tired once we were done, so we relaxed for a few hours working in dive boats and talking. Finally we took the boat and anchored (under Al’s careful guidance) at the Bight. There we were visited by the Deliverance boat, that provided us with ice cream and snacks. Now we’re eagerly awaiting sloppy joes for dinner. Yes!

It’s Only the Beginning
Location: West End, Tortola
As we all said goodbye to our families and homes, we prepared for an exciting adventure ahead! For most of us, this will not be our first AQ experience, yet we were welcomed by new instructors and new young and eager divers awaiting us on our boat, Wicked Good. Even though we had not even left the dock yet everyone was excited just to be here down in the beautiful British Virgin Islands. After passing our swim tests, and taking our first salt water showers, we started to get accustomed to our new living arrangements and sleeping outside! Unfortunately it was raining all night but luckily most of us managed to stay dry. It’s all just part of the experience!
