Summertime Thanksgiving

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Brook E.
Today we started out diving with the open water students again, yet this time was different because it was their first real time diving experience out in the open ocean! It was really interesting to see how some of them reacted, usually either nervous, excited, or both, reminding us all of how we were when we were first learning to dive (before we acquired all of our awesome dive skills). We all have been doing daily tank runs, and all of us are basically bodybuilders now from all that heavy tank lifting! Although the work can be both physically and mentally difficult, it is definitely going to be work it in the long run! After a full day of diving we had what is known as summer thanksgiving for dinner, which is just like an ordinary thanksgiving at home with turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, etc. Except this time instead of eating with our families at home we ate with our boat which is now a new family to us all. Overall it has been a great day and we cannot wait to see what is in store for us tomorrow!

Just Another Day on the Divemaster Boat

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Greg H.
It’s gorgeous here. We haven’t moved very far today- probably only a few hundred yards, but I don’t think anyone minds considering the sunset we just saw. Today was a rotation day, which means nonstop work for the divemasters. We woke up at 6 something, made scrambled eggs for 14 in 15 minutes, cleaned up in less than 10, and then had open water divers on our boat all day. Between tank runs, helping people set up their gear, and going underwater as divemasters, no one had very much time to read the 100 pages today. So yeah, our day was really busy, but that’s fairly normal at this point. What made the day unique for me was the stress test- the concept is that you and your buddy swap all of your gear while buddy breathing. It was the most fun I’ve had scuba diving in a very very long time. Anyway, we just had dinner (chicken Caesar salad with tomato risotto and corn) and the sun just set (best one yet). It’s gorgeous here.

A Day of Dramatic Doug Wars

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Leah G.
We woke up bright and early to food, fuel, and drop trash at Leverick Bay, right across from Vixen Point where we slept. We spent about an hour on shore and grabbed some goodies. We then began our sail to Anegada, which took most of the morning. There were many attempts to steal Doug the Dolphin, but the DMs thwarted them all. We returned to Wicked Good and had our first deli sandwich lunch. After a speedy cleanup we were back underway headed to Mountain Point. We had some dolphins ride our bow for a while. Tonight is Mexican night and everyone’s anxious for it. After cleanup is our night dive.

Beach Party!

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Unknown
Today the divemasters were faced with another physical challenge as we had to quickly snorkel what seemed like miles. Although we had to rush to the finish, we managed to see a giant stingray clearly flustered by our rushed and hurried swimming. As well as seeing tons of starfish ranging in colors from red to orange to yellow, it was so hard swimming by it all and not being able to stop and take in the beauty of it all! Tonight is our infamous beach BBQ where hot dogs and hamburgers are grilled all night and it gives shipmates a chance to socialize outside of the boat. As everyone dances the night away we look forward to our sail in the morning.

Beaches and Cream

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Carlo R.
This morning we woke up at 6:30 and immediately began our PADI divemaster stamina test. We had to swim 400 yards, then tread water for 15 minutes, then tow a diver for 100 yards. After that we had a surprise rescue scenario. Needless to say, being a divemaster ain’t easy. After our rescue scenario we played beach volleyball and windsurfed. But that’s not all!! We Pico’d went waterskiing, and snorkeled. Although I’d love to go to bed, we still have to do our dive chat, which I did not prepare for. What a day!!
