Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today was a super busy day! It was a rotation day, so we woke up on the beautiful island of Virgin Gorda and began a day full of fun and activity. The sun was shining down on us and our healthy amount of sunscreen as my fellow Vegas and I went on our first scuba dive! Although the water was super shallow and there were few fish to see, it was still exciting to breath from our regulators for the first time and practice the skills from our textbooks. After a rewarding dive we relaxed on the beach, played in the water and enjoyed the sunshine! At one we took the dinghy back to the boat and began making and eating lunch. Suddenly the rain began to pour, which resulted in tuna salad everywhere and a tough job for the shipmates with the roles of deckie- Callie and Dan. After lunch we returned to the beach and the Carina divers left for their first dive of the trip! The Vegas and Carinas sailors then split into groups one, two, or three; one went on a hike, two did watersports such as wakeboarding, waterskiing, and windsurfing, and three relaxed on the beach and in the water. We rotated activities so we all got the chance to go on the brilliant hike to the other side of the island. Before we knew it, it was dinner time and we left the beach for the last time (sad face!). The shipmates with the role of the chef made a delicious dinner and we soon left for the Lifeworks forum on Wicked Good. We all quickly fell asleep beneath the stars after a long and eventful day!

Settling Into the Nest
Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today we woke bright and early after our first night on the water. Climbing on deck we noticed a bird had flown into the boat. So that was our morning excitement! We also sailed for a while to Savanna Bay. On the way we practiced man overboard drills. We threw our makeshift person overboard and practiced getting him. Soo fun! Once anchored we tried wakeboarding, but many of us (including me) couldn’t get up. At least we still have 18 days left to do that! Tonight we have our dive chats, which are awesome. I’m so excited to dive at the wreck! We are having an amazing time!

Change of Plans
Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Today we had many plans set up, but in the morning we woke up to pounding rain leaking through the windows. We were supposed to take a swim test but that was put on hold. We were also supposed to have a dock meeting with Mike, but because of the rain Mitch had to give us the talk. He talked about cleanliness and other things. After the talk we prepared ourselves to set sail! Because I am a returning shipmate I was able to pull us off the dock, although I came really close to another boat; I guess I need to brush up on my navigation skills! Once we got to sea Mitch gave us a lesson on sailing until we got sleepy-eyed and then he promised he would stop talking. As we pulled up to the Bight in Norman Island, we attached ourselves to a mooring line. When we were all settled in, Mitch demonstrated how to take a shower. We had to take the swim test before we showered, which was to swim around the boat five times! The hardest par was swimming upstream around the boat, then we had to tread water for ten minutes. Once the swim test was over we dried up and had a nice dinner consisting of sloppy joes, corn, and mashed potatoes. Then the Carinas were picked up in a dinghy for the scuba chat. Once we returned to the boat we fell asleep.

Location: West End, Tortola
From all over the world, coming together on a boat we were introduced to new languages (French/Lebanese). Although somewhat hard to understand, they were accepted and embraced AT ONCE. As we sat around in the cockpit, most of us were confused about the routine, but quickly learned the routines that involve cooperation. These are the things that we would have to know for the next 21 days as a team. We ate our tortellini, cleaned our dishes, met our captain Mitch who could be Johnny Depp’s stunt double. We were so tired, so some of us slept outside on deck, Later on it rained like crazy, so everyone ran inside to a nice hot cabin. We are excited for the coming days! Yay!
