Party Hard

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Logan L.
Today was a very fun day full of sailing and fun. We all woke up to the sound of music. After breakfast, we took a sailing trip over the water in the Rhodes. We learned all about tacks and jibes. Right after that, we played some games on the beach. Next, we sailed some of the smallest sailboats I’ve ever seen. Lastly, we talked about coral with the best scuba instructors I know of. At night we all went to the beach and had a party. Best day ever.

Mangrove Snorkel

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Graham I.
Today we were all awakened early in the morning by a storm carrying through the islands. As the shipmates were huddled down in the hull of the ship, the staff all worked on the deck to keep our boat rafted with the other sailing groups. After the storm died down we drifted back to sleep and later were awoken to a delicious breakfast of French toast. After breakfast, we headed out to the mangroves where we snorkeled and looked for colorful and unique fish. Once we explored the underwater world the Sambamfam regrouped at the boat for a big and filling lunch of mac & cheese and Gatorade. After eating lunch we separated into different dinghies to do water sports such as wakeboarding, waterskiing, and kneeboarding. It is one of one of a kind when you are gliding in the crystal clear water at the as the sunset and cool breezes surround your body. Finally, we finished the day with veggie burgers for dinner and we’ll go to sleep excited for tomorrow.

Sambamfam Takes on The Baths

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Emilia C.
We started off our day being woken up by the engine starting and the anchor being lifted. We then all gathered to eat our bagels and learn what the day had planned. We were told we would be heading to the Baths and that it had many rocks to climb. We were pumped! When we got there we quickly jumped off the dinghy (Navy Seal style of course) and quickly set off to climb rocks and jump off them into the water. We got the option to get in pairs but our Sambamfam is so tight we all stayed together. We all climbed and jumped off rocks while sometimes attempting to break our Nalgene bottles (so we could get a free t-shirt) while recording the best moments on our GoPros. We then went to Spanishtown and ate off the boat for the first time this trip. We also got our phones to call our parents. After we started our engines again. We quickly started getting banana peels thrown at our boat so then we started a race. We raised our sails, cut our engines, and hoped to teach them not to mess with us again. We did just that. Once we started up, we didn’t stop. We left them in the dust.

Our First Scuba Adventure

Location: Savannah Bay, Virgin Gorda
Author: Gwen T.
Today was by far the most action-packed day so far. We started off the day with some nice bowls of oatmeal and then went over to windsurfing. I personally really liked it because it was something really new and different, even though there wasn’t much wind. Then we split up into watersports groups where we did wakeboarding, kneeboarding, and waterskiing. The other groups learned how to drive the dinghy. After an hour we switched and then it started raining. We stopped back at the boat for lunch which was tuna sandwiches and PB+Js. Then it was time for the moment we were waiting for. We finally were able to go scuba diving and apply our skills we learned. It was ten feet and in a closed ocean area. All the dive chats were actually helpful. We went scuba diving for four hours, then ate dinner which was chili and rice. For our evening activity, we are doing Lifeworks. It is our last day in Savannah Bay and we are going to set sail tomorrow morning for our next stop.
