BVI: Session 2 - Sambamba
Posted: Mon, Jul 24, 2017
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today we woke up super early in the morning to prank the other boats by changing their names to puns and inside jokes. After we laughed about what we had done we prepared for race day by eating a big breakfast and went to a meeting. We raised sail at the starting line of the race. And 3…2…1… go! We were off! But then we had to turn around and go downwind because we started ahead of everyone. When the race ended we pulled into port where we had a couple of hours of free time. After we gathered on the boat hyped for our next race. We made a playlist of songs we all liked to listen to during the race. Now we have dropped anchor at Peter Island and ate a delicious Mexican dinner. Next, we have a sail chat to finish the day.

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
We started off our day with the smell of French toast from our boat and the ones we were rafted to. We then quickly un-rafted from the other fabulous boats and went our separate ways to start our sailing practical. One by one we took the helm and did what we’ve been learning to do for the past few weeks while doing sailing circles and man overboard drills. After completing our sailing practical we then went to the most delicious island ever, Sandy Spit. We all relaxed in the water with our friends whom we would only be seeing for a couple more days. We then came back to our boat and started getting ready for race day by scraping and cleaning the bottom of the boat so nothing could stop us. We then ate dinner at and started winding down, for today has once again been an amazing day with the Sambamfam!

Week 2 ActionQuest BVI Video Update
Location: British Virgin Islands
It’s been another busy week in the BVIs for Team ActionQuest. Rescue Diver training and our Marine Bio course are in full force, most students are now certified scuba divers and many are working hard towards their IYT sailing certifications! Today over 200 members of Team AQ reached the summit of Mt. Sage, the highest point in the BVIs. We’re now well over half way through the trip and some of our students share what is important to them about their experience so far. #LifeActivated
Location: Sidney’s, Jost van Dyke
We started the day really early with a hike to Mount Sage, the highest point in the Virgin Islands. It took about three hours up-and-down. It was hard but the view at the top and banana smoothie was great. Then we ate where the song cheeseburgers in paradise were written about. Then we went to Sandy Cay for a sandcastle competition. We made a can of Red Bull, it was pretty good. Then we set sail to Sidney’s Peace and Love for a barbecue with everyone. We rafted up to the other boats at night to rest for tomorrow.

Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
We started off the day with deliciously cooked oatmeal that the chefs worked so hard to make. The rest of the day was spent telling riddles and jokes, sailing, practicing for our sailing practical, and having fun. After we docked and filled up our water tanks we dropped our anchors next to the other ActionQuest boats and met new friends. Later we ate dinner and started cleaning the boat before sail chat. Today I started feeling way more confident sailing, jibing, and tacking, this was a great day to sail with my mates and listen to awesome pirate music! Arrr!
