BVI: Session 2 - Sambamba

Sambamba Staff Update Day 21

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: David, Maddy, and Casey
It seems like just yesterday we were leaving West End and raising our sails, when really it was actually 21 days ago. Since then we have worked together as a team to overcome challenges, push ourselves to grow, and became closer to form the amazing, one and only, Sam-Bam Fam. We spent our last day on the water doing what we love best; sailing, dancing and singing the song Tropics. We competed for the sailing race with Toby on the helm and Graham on the main sheet. We had Gwen and Brooke as spotters as we raised our main halyard and everyone else jumped in when needed and provided moral support and entertainment. Our last dive on the Rhone was a huge success. Being able to dive the wreck after all of the hard work was exhilarating. We saw a huge porcupine fish, tarpon and even the propeller of the Rhone herself. All of our divers passed their SCUBA test with flying colors and this was really evident by the responsible way they managed themselves underwater. Ben, Yoav, Emilia, and Jason (Team Diva) with celebrity guest Logan, raved about the dive and couldn’t wait to start planning their next dive adventures with their families. Not only did the Sam-Bam Fam ace their diving exams and earn their certifications, they all did an amazing job during their sailing practicals. David and Casey couldn’t stop raving about how good of a job the group had done during their man overboard drills and sailing circles. Our advanced sailors, Paul and Yoav, worked hard studying for their advanced sailing and VHF test to put to use all of the new knowledge they had acquired from working with David these past 3 weeks. We can’t believe it’s all come to a close and we are sad to see you all go, but from our last night’s squeeze question, it seems pretty obvious we will be seeing all of your faces around the dock here next year. We will miss you Sam-Bam Fam! Date: Jul 28, 2017

Last Day

Location: West End, Tortola

We started off the day with some good cereal. After that we had a skipper’s meeting for the race. Then we had the race. We would have done better but we had a bad tack and took second. After that we cleaned the boat while we sailed back to West End. Then we got to go to the port when we were done cleaning. Next we had a good rest of the day at the BBQ. date:Jul 27, 2017

Road Town!

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Paul S.
We started our awesome day with delicious pancakes made by our chefs with the director Mike. Then we did a Lifeworks Forum that was only the first part of the morning. The second part was watersports, everybody had a lot of fun, but it was time to head to Road Town, the capital of Tortola. Once we docked we went in to have shore time. After getting to visit the town we left to anchor in The Bight. We ate dinner and did another Lifeworks. date:Jul 26, 2017

Day 18

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Logan L.
Today was a great day full of fun. We woke up to the smell of cereal. To start off the day we raised anchor and set our course to Salt Island, where we dove on the Rhone. After the Rhone, we had a lunch of ramen. Next, we took a hike to the highest point on Salt Island where I told a story of what happened to the Rhone at the top. Lastly, we set sail to where we started the day, to find out that we are getting breakfast for dinner. Now for the final task, we had to take a sailing test for a certification. Date: Jul 25, 2017
