Time is Running Out

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Lara A.
This morning started at 6:45 when we got up, ate breakfast and got ready for a long day. Since I was the skipper, today I went to a meeting after breakfast to know how todays race will go. They told us that we would start in Pelican Island, head to Road Harbor, tack, and then go to Great Harbor where we will finish up. After a while, the meeting ended and I told our boat the details. We started the race at 8:30 with Porter as our first helmsman. It was good at first with a second place position, however our jib sail went wrong so we ended the race in seventh place. But it was all right. After the race, we went to West End to dock for the end of the trip. On our way we started our full boat clean up. It was hard at first, but once we got near the dock, I docked us well. I went in reverse and we didnt crash. It was a great dockage. Once we arrived, we cleaned up, packed up and went to the port. Later tonight, we will have a BBQ, which I am really excited for, but we will be leaving tomorrow. I am very sad to be leaving because I had a great time and I hope to come again next year.

Race Day

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Angel A.
Today we woke up bright and early to get a head start on race day. I, as skipper, I got to pick who would be on the helm for our first race. I chose Porter. We won the first race by a long shot. For the second race I chose Mikhail, and he led us to our second victory. We celebrated by drinking apple juice in our first place trophies. We were very happy because we were the youngest group and no one thought we would win. Who would think we would get first place twice! Once we finished we made a boom swing. We had a lot of fun and then had Mexican food night. We are finished with a sail chat and a night dive.

We did so many fun things today! The first thing we did was wake up around 6:30. Then for breakfast, we had French toast and cereal. I tried French toast for the first time and I really liked it. Soon after breakfast ended and clean up ended, we were ready for a day of sailing. We quickly raised the mainsail and were tacking and jibing. Then we raised the jib sail, which made us, go a lot faster. We sailed around until lunch, which was about three hours. Before lunch we did a huge boat clean that took a while. Lunch was chicken salad wraps and fruit. Griffin, our skipper, told each of us the things we got checked off for our beginner sailor certification. The main ones that everyone needs is knowing the parts of the sailboat and safety regulations which wont be checked off until the end because we need to make sure we are safe. Everyone on Squeakybrat then went to Sandy Spit. The beach was very tiny and mainly all sand, but it was pretty and I got some really cool photos on my GoPro. We built sandcastles and swam. I was there for the entire afternoon and collected really pretty seashells. Everyone got back on the boat at 6:00pm and ate hot dogs, rice, beans and corn bread. After dinner we took our showers and got ready fro Lifeworks. For Lifeworks we went to Moko Jumbie which is catamaran and we saw Wind Shadow and La Bella Vita.
