BVI: Session 1 - Sambamba
Day 16- Exam Day!
Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Today was an exam day, the practical sailing exam, so today our wonderful staff aboard let us sleep in an extra hour because yesterday was the longest day. We got up around 7:30 and made some French toast. After that, we got ready for the day and set off for the open space of out the bay so we could do the sailing exam. It took about six hours for ten people but it was fun. Everyone did very well and we got ready to anchor at Sandy Spit. After that, we went to a little island that had a beach on it. While we were gone, Shona, our awesome first mate, prepared our dinner, which was rice and beans. The rest of the night was pretty straightforward and we went to bed.

Day 15- Longest Day
Location: Sydney’s, Jost van Dyke
Today was… long. We got up around 6, had to rush breakfast to get to the dock on time for our hike to the top of Mt. Sage, which is the highest point in the Virgin Islands. When we got to the dock Mike gave us a speech on what to do and not do. We finally got started and the first thirty minutes were straight uphill. Once that part was over it was easier, but it was still hard because we still had about two more miles til the top. It was a long trek but we made it. I got 94th and got a smoothie. After we cooled off, we went back down the hill and into town for some lunch. Once the dinghies picked us up, we went to Sandy Cay and made sandcastles. After we left, we went to Sydneys Peace and Love for another BBQ. We had chicken, pasta and salad for dinner and then ice cream for dessert. We had to stay off the boats until 11pm so multiple people fell asleep in chairs. Once we got on the boat, many people went to sleep almost immediately.

Pietra, Lilah, Eli and I got to go first. At the end of Pico sailing, Eli ended up towing us back. After coming in we, all made bracelets and learned cool knots!! I was a pretty good bracelet maker. Once we were, all done making bracelets we all went down below and learned some navigation skills! I had to find the points on the chart of where we were going today and I luckily did it right and got us to the right island! When we finished navigation skills, we all got ready for our diving and went our instructors boats. Pietra and I went on our final dive and got our advanced diving certification. The water was so pretty and there was a huge squad of squids. When we came back, we all ate lunch and went out for a sail. When we arrived in the beautiful bay, Pietra and I got off and got a huge bag of ice to eat. Then we fueled up and got water! Now we are anchored in beautiful crystal blue water. We ate a delicious dinner and will have a sail chat after. After chat, we get to have cake and then we are off to bed for an exciting day tomorrow!
