BVI: Session 2 - Sailing Curls

An Idyllic Day

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Gabriel G.
After a terrific BBQ and dance the night prior, as well as a sufficient night’s rest, the day was indicative of something good. We began the day around 8:30 with a breakfast of cereal, granola, and oatmeal. We then prepared for our dive chat. The dive chat was predominantly about conservation of the environment, as well as the variety of organisms sustained by it. We then began our journey to a near port called Leverick Bay. As we arrived we quickly dispersed from the boat and headed to the restaurant. A few hours later we convened at the docks and prepared to leave the bay. Although the sail seemed long, we embraced the adventure and crew made incredible memories. We made a delicious Mexican feast all while overlooking the mesmerizing view. The Barracuda students went on their first-night dive, while the remaining students had our scuba chats and a movie and then we went to bed.

Today was definitely a great day. It started off with an amazing breakfast of cereal. After cleanup everyone set up their dive gear so we could head off to our first dive spot at the Rhone cannon. At the dive, all of the buddies split up so we could practice our navigation. Me and my dive buddy, August, saw a small stingray which was so cool! After that dive, we all took a dinghy back to Curls. The Carinas then took out Rhodes while the Barracudas went on a second dive at Mountain Point. On that dive, there was much more cool fish and there was a lot of cool coral. After the dive, we went back to Curls and prepared a delicious lunch of chicken salad and veggies. After lunch and cleanup, we went to the beach and played games. After fun beach games some people took out Picos while others went windsurfing. After all the fun activities we came back to Curls to take showers. To top off the great day we had a lot of fun at our first beach BBQ!

Three Happy Meals

Even though the day started with a huge storm, it quickly escalated to one of those great days. We woke up around 8:30 AM to the smell of French toast cooked to perfection by Matthew. After breakfast, the squad stayed inside playing cards due to foul weather. A few rounds of Uno later, rotation day started. In groups of four, we wakeboard all over the bay. What can I say? It was awesome!!! August and I used the wake to land some pretty sick jumps. Not to mention Matthew’s skill on a slalom, simply amazing. Honestly, it was the best hour of wakeboarding of my life. Then came the theory where we learned around five essential knots for the test. After the weather cleared the Barracudas went diving and the Carinas went snorkeling in the mangroves. From what I was told the dive was amazing. They saw an octopus. In the snorkel, we saw a mini barracuda and a huge porcupine fish. We finished off with Nelson and Sam free diving with me as the water was amazing. Back to Curls, we played at the stern of the boat until the light swept away and the duties of a chef called us. The time came and Nelson, Gabe, and I put on our chef hats and prepared exquisite veggie burgers that dissolved as it entered your mouth perfectly balanced with the secret sauce. We also took 45 minutes to prepare a potato puree. The taste was out of this world and the product was the best dinner so far. This amazing day ended with a good movie and a stronger, more united squad.

Today has been the best day. We woke up at Savanna Bay and motored to the Baths. The Baths were filled with beauty and fun places to explore. The Baths had tons of rock obstacles and places to swim, but the definite highlight of the Baths was the rock jump. After leaving the Baths we headed to Spanishtown for our first shore adventure. We headed to the Bath and Turtle for lunch and to call home. Before heading back onboard we visited the ice cream shop and the dive shop for fun souvenirs. Once back aboard we set sail for Vixen Point, only to get in a banana fight and race with Sambamba. After getting to Vixen Point we enjoyed a delicious dinner.
