BVI: Session 2 - Sailing Curls
Posted: Tue, Jul 25, 2017
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
In the morning we awoke to our first race day. Today we had two races. The first race we raced from Sandy Spit to West End. We ended up coming in third. After racing to West End we had shore time. We all enjoyed our lunch and time on shore. We then headed back to the boat to begin our second race. The second race was filled with many tacks up the Drake Channel. After arriving at our destination the Barracudas set up their gear to go on their final night dive to get their specialty. We then enjoyed a Mexican themed dinner. Then the Barracudas set out to their dive and saw multiple fish and a ray. Date: Jul 24, 2017

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
The day started out with French toast, but this time Gwen made it for the entire boat. Due to the fact that yesterday was the longest day of them all, we got to sleep in until at least 7:15. After breakfast, we left the raft and started the sailing practical for which we did sailing circles and man overboard drills. We did one man overboard drill that lasted 20 minutes and we went through three different skippers. After those, we had chicken Caesar salad wraps for lunch and we anchored in Sandy Spit. From lunch, we went to The Playground’s dive site while the Carinas went to a little beach for some time. The dive was the first as advanced open water divers. We saw a lot of cool coral and cool fish. After that, we came back for a shower and dinner of hot dogs and rice and beans with a side of cornbread. After dinner, we went to a Lifeworks talk with Jake. We returned to the boat to go to sleep.

Week 2 ActionQuest BVI Video Update
Location: British Virgin Islands
It’s been another busy week in the BVIs for Team ActionQuest. Rescue Diver training and our Marine Bio course are in full force, most students are now certified scuba divers and many are working hard towards their IYT sailing certifications! Today over 200 members of Team AQ reached the summit of Mt. Sage, the highest point in the BVIs. We’re now well over half way through the trip and some of our students share what is important to them about their experience so far. #LifeActivated
Location: Sidney’s, Jost van Dyke
It’s amazing. It feels as if we arrived yesterday and as if we’re leaving tomorrow. Regardless, here’s what we did today: we woke up at about 6 AM to hike Mount Sage. When the hike started we all had underestimated the way up and had a hard time walking! When we arrived at our destination we appreciated a unique sight that made the hike worth it. Most of us had these outstanding banana smoothies, then we had shore time and ate real food. Next, we motored to Sandy Cay to compete in a sandcastle competition. But Curls just ended up enjoying themselves on the crystal-clear beach, we were disqualified for under-participation after that. We showered and now we just docked with all of sail side because we are going to the barbecue.

The Days Are Flying By!!
Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
We had oatmeal for breakfast and started rotation day by shuttling over to Portlandia. Me, Ricky, Nelson, and Mark then caught massive air on the wakeboard and also had some gnarly wipeouts. After that, we went back to Curls and ate delicious PB+J before our dives. Our first dive was our deep dive to become junior advanced open water divers! Our other dive was a fun dive where me, Gabe, and Nelson saw tons of coral and fish. We later set sail for Cane Garden Bay, which is where we do our massive hike. We had Mike over for dinner and ate Thai peanut chicken and had a mini Lifeworks Forum.
