Staff Update Day 20
Location: West End
The best part of today was hearing the shipmates tell me that “it felt like we were here a week ago.” In reality, three intensely fun weeks have passed by and I can officially call this boat a family. Whether it’s our Vegas- Bruce, Pablo, Steve, and Sonali up on deck running the boat, or our seven Barracudas Ryan, Nick, Alyssa, Tucker, Alex, Ellen, and Calvin amazing us underwater, this boat couldn’t have enjoyed a nicer combination of individuals. From Pico sailing to watersports to scuba diving in some of the most beautiful locations in the Caribbean, Tanis Marie has proven to be an energetic and enthusiastic bunch. I can honestly say that I’ve never before had such a close group amongst every single shipmate. Cliques don’t form on this boat and neither do major conflicts. That was a huge relief and something that I’m sure Aaron, Catie, and I will cherish for years to come. Watching the boat clean up and have a major packing session is saddening but exciting. It’s exciting for us to be leaving our shipmates with eternal memories, but it’s sad to see them go. Goodbye Tanis crew! You’ve been amazing.

I’m so sad it’s the last day! I’m going to miss everyone!! Today we had a race and the race was awesome! We came in last (hahaha) but it doesn’t matter because it was a really fun sail. We all grew even closer than we were before. I didn’t think that was possible! We woke up super early today to get started on our huge boat clean. It’s really busy around the boat because everyone is cleaning different things. Last night we stayed up late writing our cards. Cards are where we all write cards to each other saying positive and nice things. I’m really sad this session is over! I had so much fun here and it’s so sad to see it end. But I’m also excited to go home. We had our final BBQ tonight and I’m sad but excited. I’m going to miss everyone so much! It was a great day!

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Today was a fun day. First we zoomed off to Salt Island for two dives. The first one was the exploration of a wreck. We saw a lot of different things, and this was just the stern of the boat. There were a whole bunch of squirrelfish that were about a foot long. We also saw a parrotfish just a bit bigger than the squirrelfish. After we set up our second dive we actually got to swim over and through the propeller of the boat. The propeller was gigantic. It was about 7 times bigger than the one on our boat. When everyone got back on the boat we went around the corner to go on a hike on the island. Then we sailed off to the Bight for dinner. For dinner we had delicious broccoli and cheese pasta. So I bet you would agree, today was a fun day.

Happy 4th of July!
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today we woke up and had ah-mazing pancakes. They were reallllyyy good! Bruce told me to put peanut butter and syrup on min I was reluctant at first but then I tried it and it was awesome! I know it sounds gross but it was so yummy and everyone on the boat tried it after. After breakfast we then sailed to Road Town. It was a fun sail because we did something called “telltale sailing.” That’s when we sail with just the jib up. Aaron calls it a “casual sail.” It was cool because since we only had the jib up, Steve and I got to lay in the hammocks while we were sailing! When we anchored, we took the dinghy to Road Town. We hung out there for a while and then the dinghy took us back to the boat. Then we sailed to Great Harbor on Peter Island. We were going to motor but then Aaron decided it would be fun to sail. We were all not so excited about having to sail because we were really tired… but we ended up having a great sail! I got to be the skipper and it was really fun!! I’m still learning so I did not go that fast (only 7.4 knots), but still the experience was really fun. When we anchored we went swimming and that was really fun! I know this sounds repetitive because I’m always saying things were “really fun,” but they were! Wait I didn’t even say my favorite part of the day! Ok, so right after we woke up we went diving and that was cool, but the most fun was when we went waterskiing/wakeboarding/kneeboarding! I went wakeboarding and learned how to jump! It took me a few tries but I ended up getting lots of air! It was a super fun day.

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
When we woke up this morning, the first thing we smelled was the smell of pancakes. The Vegas had their sailing test today. All of them did very well. We went sailing for a long time. When we arrived at our destination it was the most beautiful sight I have seen on the whole trip. The Barracudas went diving. We saw a huge nurse shark. Today was a fun day. We anchored between two beautiful island called Green Cay and Sandy Spit.
