Staff Update Day 21

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Jake, Alex, and Lawre
Wow! What an awesome three weeks it has been aboard Midnatt Solen! This session has flown by and we are so sad to see out wonderful shipmates leave tomorrow. These three weeks have been filled with many successes. We are so proud of our newly certified divers and IYT crew certificate holders. Most importantly, we are so proud of how close our crew has become and how much they have supported one another. We will all miss Simon’s unique sense of humor that kept is laughing. The boat won’t be they same with out Roky’s laughter or Robby’s dance moves. Bella’s kind and helpful spirit have helped to make Midnatt such a home, and we will certainly miss Phoebe’s endless excitement for dinghy driving. Midnatt would not have been the same without Mo and Jon’s song writing abilities, Savannah’s helpful attitude or Austin’s impeccable attention to detail. Today we raced, coming in second, with Zak, Ben and Jack at the helm. We would have not clenched the second place title without those guys working so hard on the helm. There hardworking spirit have made Midnatt such a fun vessel to sail. Can’t believe it has to come to and end but these three weeks have been so incredible. We as staff are so lucky to have gotten to know this group of students!

Day 20

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Zak T.
Today we woke up early so that we could prepare our boat to race. We ate a simple breakfast of cereal and I went off to a skippers meeting. While there, we talked briefly, of where we were going. Once I got back on the boat, we went underway and picked up our mooring. We set off in what was supposed to be first, but because of a small change, we started in eighth. We immediately caught up to the other boats maneuvering our way up to third and then finishing off the race in second place. After the race, we all worked together to clean the boat and got off on shore for a great lunch. We will finish the program with all the boats tonight.

Day 19- Diving The Rhone

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Jack M.

The day started off with a history lesson about the Rhone while eating breakfast under-way. Once we arrived at the shipwreck, we quickly suited up and took the 60-foot plunge to where the ship lays. It was amazing! We got to see things like portholes and the propeller. After we surfaced, we went back to our boat and prepared for the sailing exam. Everyone passed and I managed to get my VHF certification also. We then hiked around Salt Island. Right now, we are sailing back to the Bight, which is where we spent our first night out on the water. I am sad to now realize there is only one more stop to make.

Day 18

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Henry
This morning we got to sleep in. It was amazing!! Then we are chocolate chip pancakes. After cleaning up, we plated cards and learned new games. After that we went knee boarding, the water was great! Right after getting back to the boat, we jumped in the water and went swimming. We also made an obstacle course on the side of the boat. After playing more cards, we motored to Road Town, the capital of Tortola to hangout and eat lunch. During lunch, I learned the meaning of Island time. Our food arrived one hour and 25 minutes after we ordered! Though it was a long wait, it was so worth it! The food was great. We went to an ice cream truck and I had my first ice cream cone since arriving.
