Day 19- A Day to Remember

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Eli I.
This morning I woke up in my fox hole by Smudge to get up and eat but I went back to bed because I was so tired. Then I woke up while we were sailing and I couldn’t get out of my fox hole because the waves were splashing over it. So I stayed in my cabin till we anchored. Then I waited to go and take our sailing test and after that we went on the Rhone dive. We saw a lot of cool fish and parts of the ship. We are having broccoli cheddar pasta tonight for dinner. We are then packing up and writing nice cards to each other. It was a great day today!

Day 17 – Races!

Today I woke up with a nice hot bowl of oatmeal and a 7:30 meeting for a race! I was skipper so I had the opportunity to lead everyone to victory!I quickly got ready after the meeting to inform everyone where we will race. After that we had to line up for our first race.It went from 2 minutes, to 1 minute, to 30seconds, then to 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. GOOO!We took third for the majority of the race and finished there. After that race we went to port for two hours where I ate at Pussers and stocked up on Nutella. As soon as we got out we had the final race for all the money. We went up wind so we had to tack A LOT.In this race we came second to last. We went in the harbor where we are anchored and ate dinner.

Day 16- The Realization Day

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Author: Pepe M.

Today was rather slow but still filled with hard work and determination. We began the information packed day with a classic American dish, the exquisite pancakes. After that we untied ourselves from the dock. Smudge began to assess us with tasks related to the subject of sailing (knots, tacks, etc). I proudly completed each task with the help of my shipmates. I believe that if we set our minds to it, our group works as strenuously as a pack of lions. After completing the tasks, I sat down and began to realize the joy and tragedy of what is going to occur in 5 days. In 5 days I will happily greet my friends and family back in South Beach. This is amazing, I have the greatest family in the world. I am happy, yet unhappy. These few minutes tell me that all of the funny jokes, awesome people and waking up to a beautiful view every day is coming to a close. I wish I could bring back Big Blue, the kneeboard and all of the hilarious moments onboard Sambamba. I took a moment to realize that I am one lucky dude to have the opportunity to go to such a sweet camp, especially in the BVI. After this moment I grabbed a snorkel and fins and headed to the beach with Calypso. We all had our laughs. The day is coming to an end and I hope these last few days are packed with memories!

Day 15- Sidney’s Peace and Love BBQ

Location: Sidney’s, Jost van Dyke
Author: Thomas S.

It was an early morning to make sure the boat was in tip top shape before we went to the dock at 7am. The hike started with a grueling hill climb to the highest point in the Virgin Islands. After 20-30 minutes or so the hill climb was over and it was a more mellowed path. After almost everybody who made it to the top treated themselves with banana smoothies, people started making the descent to the bottom. After you made it down you could go to town for food. At 12:45 shuttling started to boats for the sandcastle building contest. After everyone finished we moved to Sydney’s Peace and Love for a BBQ and dancing with live music. You could also get your hair braided and buy t-shirts. After 10:45pm we headed back to our boats to have a good rest.
