Day 16- Race Day

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Christopher C.
The final day is always the saddest, but today was an exceptionally fun day! We started off by waking up early, and Smudge and I went to the skipper’s meeting for the final race. Once we got back to the boat we sailed to the starting line. Once the race started we were stressed because we had a slow start that made us be in last place. We quickly got speed and pushed into third place! We slowly gained on Squeakybrat, but never caught up. We finished the race in third out of the five boats. We then sailed to West End, which is where we started. We then cleaned up our boat. We then went to the dock for our party and food. ActionQuest was an amazing experience.

Day 15

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Nick H.
We started the day off in Peter Island. We had breakfast and then went wakeboarding or kneeboarding, and then did sailing practicals. After finishing our practicals we set sail and cruised to Road Town. We got to get off and have lunch in Road Town, which was really good. After lunch we got back onboard and motored over to the Bight on Norman Island. When we got to the Bight the staff went over to a meeting so we made dinner completely by ourselves. It was really good. When we finished dinner, our captain Smudge challenged us. The challenge was that if we said anything during cleanup we would owe him Oreos. It was really hard, but we made it through, but we owe him a lot of Oreos. Today was really fun!

Day 14- Salt Island

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Xavier S.
We started off the day with the sound of music that Smudge played. We started motoring to the wreck of the Rhone, which is next to Salt Island. After the dive of the Rhone we set to hike Salt Island and it took around 40 minutes. Then we set off to Peter Island. The Quest snorkeled the Rhone and everybody saw turtles, barracudas and a stingray. Overall today was a good day.

Day 13- Race Day

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Jack O.
Today we started the day at Sandy Spit (it was so beautiful!) We motored over to West End were we started our journey. We had to fill up our water tanks because we ran out of water. While this was happening all of the us went to shore to buy lunch and go to the souvenir shops. we went to a restaurant named Pusser’s and we all had pizza. All of the skippers had to go to a meeting because all of the sail side boats raced from West End to Peter Island our boat came in second place. Our skipper and first mate were very proud of us because we made the best tack they have seen all summer. (A winchless tack!) When we anchored at Peter island Ocean Star came into view, they are the college version of ActionQuest called Seamester. Their boat has five sails and the boat is 88 ft long… it is very big. I can’t believe it is almost over.

Day 12- The Most Awesome Sail Day

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Author: Duarte G.
Today was a great day! We woke up at Muskmelon Bay and ended at Sandy Spit. Today we did a lot of learning. We learned how to do man overboard drills. Smudge gave every member of the crew a chance at the helm for the drill. We also practiced jibing. This is a maneuver where you turn the stern of the boat. This was a really fun day. We went to Cane Garden Bay for lunch and had mac and cheese and it was amazing. After all this day was super fun!
