BVI: Session 2 - La Bella Vita

Stingrays and Barracudas

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Ashley D.
Today Ben woke us up at 6:30 so we would have time to eat breakfast before rotations started. Our first rotation was windsurfing, but most of us just stayed in the water to talk to each other. The next rotation was Picos. Luckily for us, we had great wind conditions. After a few near capsizes, we headed to La Bella Vita for lunch. When we finished cleanup we split into two groups to sail on Rhodes. We practiced sailing circles, tacking, jibing and man-over board drills. We hurried back to quickly get our dive gear. We headed over to the dive site. On the dive, we saw two stingrays and while Collin and I were sitting on the bottom I spotted a 4ft Barracuda. After the dive, we went to Leverick Bay to fill up on water and now we are on the way to Mountain Point where we will spend the next two days. To quote Ross, Today was another great day at ActionQuest!

One Week Down

Today was a rotation day, we wake-boarded, tied knots, and went diving. For lunch, we had mac-n-cheese (which is my favorite) and tonight we have the beach BBQ which I’m really excited for. My favorite part of the day was showering and doing back flips off of the dinghy. Today is day 7, which is crazy, because time is flying. I love my boat a lot and I’m having fun meeting the other boats. I miss my family and friends a lot, especially the ones in Westport but I couldn’t be having a better time.

Sails Up!

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound

Today was an amazing day of sailing. This morning we got to sleep in! After we woke up at 8:30 this morning we ate some delicious French toast, we ate inside today because it was really raining this morning. Then we sang happy birthday to Nicole. After that, it sailed up and we did some sail circles. The wind was amazing and we heeled over a lot. We stopped at The Dogs for lunch where it was super windy and soon after we went to Leverick Bay for some shore time. After that, we headed to Vixen Point and had some fun swimming around in the water and showering. My favorite part of the day was when we were motoring over to Leverick Bay. We all sat at the bow of the boat sitting and having fun. I can’t wait to see what is in store for tomorrow!

Our First Adventure Down Below

Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda

I would say that today was the most action-packed day we’ve had so far. After a morning breakfast of oatmeal and fruit, we hopped into the dinghy for watersports. Since today was rotation day we had the opportunity to go to the beach and windsurf as well. After an exciting morning, we returned back to our beautiful boat for a lunch of sandwiches and leftovers. With full bellies, we headed back to the beach and prepared for our first dive as a group. Our first dive was not a training dive it was a fun dive, so our instructors threw a twist to us. Underwater Olympics! We completed a series of obstacles and had tons of fun. We all surfaces and rested for 5 minutes before our second dive of the day; navigation (i.e. a technical dive). After about 45mins of reading compasses, we surfaced. (unfortunately, as soon as we returned back, some of us realized just how sun burnt we were. Lessons were definitely learned). All in all, however, a pretty amazing day. Can’t wait for more adventures to come!
