Chill Bill

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Candler D.
Today started pretty rough but ended great. Dryer, Bella, Kiley and I were all sleeping in the cockpit when a wave of heavy rain came around 4 AM. We ended up rapidly crawling out of our cocoons and rushing to the salon, which, unfortunately, did not have AC. The entire boat ended up in the most random sleeping locations. However, we all ended up finding a place to curl up for the remainder of the night. As a team, we decided that once the morning started we would start with our dive chat, so that we didn’t have to do it at the end of the day. (Great move on our part). So, we ate a gourmet oatmeal breakfast and enjoyed a lovely scuba video and quiz. After breakfast, we all got ready and motored to Leverick Bay, where we got snack for the boat, ate lunch and got to call home. Rhoads ended up spending some big dollars for boat snacks at the market. After we left town, we sailed for the entire afternoon and made it to our next destination: Mountain Point. When we arrived, Patino made a rope swing out of our halyard so we could swing off the boat. We finished the day with a double squeeze and were lucky enough to have director Mike on board to lead a game. Overall, this was a very chill day, which I think our boat earned and enjoyed.

Waking up to the perfect morning rain shower started our third rotation day off just right. Our schedule proved to have the best three activities available: Pico boat sailing, coral reef certification, and snorkeling. We started Pico sailing off with a boom as Rhoads had one of the funniest and most entertaining capsizes of the day. After many tries, all of the Sambam family made it to shore as new and improved Pico sailors. We headed to one of our co-fleet boats to start our reef conservation certification process. After a delicious and filling lunch of chicken salad sandwiches, we headed to the most adventurist activity of the day, snorkeling in a mangrove ecosystem. Within a few minutes of our two-hour session, we realized how beautiful and deep the ecosystem was. Now about to head off to the first BBQ with the entire AQ fam. Cant wait to dance our feet off!

Happy Birthday Isaiah

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Gabriel G.
Today was one of a kind! We started off the day with windsurfing, and unlike Rhoads who ended up surfing for almost half an hour, I fell on my first try, and twenty following that! After that, we started practicing our sand castle building for an upcoming contest, but I noticed that we all struggled paying attention to sand, and ended up burying one another instead! I also loved playing volleyball with a coconut, which was very difficult to do. The funniest part of the day was fighting over Gloria (our inflatable donut). The best part of the day was finally being able to kneeboard after a few wipeouts. The most memorable part of the day was seeing about a dozen flamingos flying over our heads. Another funny part of the day was a goldfish named Jupiter went overboard and Patino jumped in to save it! I also want to congratulate Isaiah on his sixteenth birthday!

The Baths of Virgin Gorda

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Isaiah L.
Today we hiked and lounged at the wonderful Baths of VG. The enormous boulders were great for climbing on, jumping off, and just looking at since it such a magical place with such rich history. Unbeknownst to me, however, there was a good amount of jellyfish in the water and I got stung twice. That crowned me as the most accident-prone person on the boat. After the Baths, we set sail on one of our fastest voyages yet, dipping the rails far into the water because of the strength of the wind. Before the sail, we stopped at Spanish town for lunch and souvenirs; amongst which included bandanna floats and a sick party hat for my birthday tomorrow. After our sail we all took showers and swam around a bit, then rafter 4 different boats together for the night. Right after our raft, we saw a flock of flamingos flying overhead. All in all, it was a fun day filled with excitement and a little stinging.

First Dive/Windsurf/Sandcastles

Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Author: Dyer M.
Today we woke up and ate oatmeal. I am the skipper so I was in charge of waking up the chefs. After breakfast, we went to shore and started windsurfing. It was super fun and really funny. Rhoads is by far one of the funniest people Ive ever met. He wore a rashguard, but it had a hat attached to it and he looked like a water ninja while windsurfing and all the activities were amazing. My favorite part of the day was building Fort Harvix. Harvix is what we named the hand sanitizer bottle on board; we spent an hour building the moat and the little town in its honor. We established there are three different types of sand. There is underwater sand, which is vanilla. Then we have the semi-wet sand we call the chocolate, and lastly the dry sand is the strawberry. This is all thanks to Isaiah. He thought the beach looked like Neapolitan ice cream. So we went with that. Today was wonderful and I love spending time with the best leaders and all the other kids on this boat. The food is great and I sleep outside every night. Its beautiful here and all the people are so amazing. So happy to be here, and looking forward to tomorrow.
