Taking The Helm

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Jackson T.
This morning we woke up at 7am and made breakfast as the sun rose above Virgin Gorda. The main part of the day for me was taking the helm for the first time as we sailed around North Sound and docked in a close by port. Then we all walked around near where we docked. We got food and walked around the bay, after a couple of hours on land we boarded the ship and sailed around in the sun so everyone could practice various skills aboard the boat. We got to dip in the clear sea and rinse off in the shower. Overall this was a great day, as you couldn’t ask for anything other than being in a place like this. date:Aug 5, 2017

To Old Friends and New Adventures

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Jake E.
As day 2 of raft ActionQuest begins, the lovely islands greet the crew with a rain, reminding the sleepers outside that no night is perfect. As our lovely mate Caleb says, “when it rains, it pours.” However, this did not hurt the enthusiasm to tackle yet another rotation day. As we looked left and right, we saw our companions, friends, and fellow rafters. Yet as we looked ahead, we saw great beauty in places we’ve never seen, gave other watersports a go, and watched Ashley school the whole crew in crafting a ball of twine so sophisticated it makes cats befuddled. It was this contrast of old and new that put a spin on the day, planting it as one of the best so far. Yet another surprise was the Hibiclens shower that followed. With the prospect of the BBQ, spirits are high. What the future holds is unknown, but whatever it throws at us, the crew will use their knowledge and energy to overcome any obstacle. date:Aug 4, 2017

My Fiverate Day

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Trey T.
We woke up and played the same songs from every other day, but no one minds. Today was a rotation day so we were fairly busy. First I learned to tie many different knots from Shannon. My favorite was the cleat knot which I learned pretty quick. After knot tying we went wakeboarding, following that Ian said he was taking a boat of people to go scuba diving. This was very fun to dive in Mountain Point as it was my first time seeing fish during a dive. My dive buddy was Brandon and we practiced many skills with Maddy, such as taking off our BCDs underwater and dragging each other across the surface. We stayed underwater for some time without our mask, and practiced slurping air from our mouthpiece while purging. After scuba we had soup with crackers, which was amazing. Following that the whole crew showered, then had an interesting sailing chat with Ian. The sail chat ended and we were off to the next anchorage which I drove us the whole way because I am the skipper for the day. This was for me the best part of the day because it was a thrill! The whole sail was about two hours and I probably drove for one hour and fifty five minutes just because we were making a raft with our ships, so Ian maneuvered. Now we are in Vixen Point connected to other boats. As I am finishing this Maddy asked me to check if the cheddar broccoli pasta is ready and it tastes amazing! Now I am going to eat this beautiful food in the breathtaking Caribbean, what a day! Can’t wait for tomorrow because I hear there is a BBQ on the beach. date:Aug 3, 2017

Day 4

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda

Today we went to the Baths. It was fun to explore the rocks. Jumping from the big rock was also pretty fun and not as scary as I thought. Then we went in the dinghy and went back to the ship. And after we sailed which was my favorite part of AQ so far because I got to steer. But I learned that I need to pay attention more to learn how to sail properly. I’m very excited to learn about sailing and the wind and stuff soon. Overall the chili at dinner and the day was good. date:Aug 2, 2017

Day 3

Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Author: Madison S.
Today was hectic, in a fun way. We woke up early and started with some scrambled eggs. The day was kicked off with some dinghy driving. It’s a little bit scary at first but once you get the hang of it it’s super chill. We then started either wakeboarding, waterskiing, or kneeboarding. Some were much better than others. Trying to get on top of the water is frustrating, yet exhilarating. With Bella Vita we did Pico sailing and windsurfing. Pico sailing was quite interesting for me and Kavya. We might have run into a boat, but we bounced back, it’s Gucci. The Picos go so fast you have to be ready! When you catch the wind at just the right spot it is pretty amazing. We took a quick stop for lunch, then did our first confined water dive!! Taking your first breath underwater makes you feel like a mermaid. We all learned to love it super quick. Right now we finished up some pasta and are cleaning like good kids! I don’t have much else to say except we will all be sleeping good tonight! date:Aug 1, 2017
