Author: Jake, Hannah, and Emma
How is it already day 21? With such an amazing group of students, these past three weeks have absolutely flown by! From sailing to scuba diving to water sports, we’ve done it all, and each student shines in their own way! Ryan absolutely shreds at wakeboarding and is known throughout the fleet for it. Anna’s smiles and positive attitude keep the whole boat afloat, and she’s also a fantastic person to Pico with. Emiliano, otherwise known as Popop, is always keen to jump in the water and get the whole group swimming. Lexie’s excellent helming skills led us to success during the races! She’d make a great skipper one day! Joao absolutely annihilated sail trim to get our sails in a perfect way every time. His favorite line is the traveler! Alexia is always so attentive in class, asking questions to be the star pupil that she is. Nat always keeps us smiling with her funny faces. She’s also great at sailing and diving is always keen to volunteer for more! Rita is great at diving! Was so comfortable underwater and looked an absolute natural. Ty loves to keep the boat laughing and was happiest when Pico sailing with Joao! Ronnie was such a great friend to everyone onboard and was always helpful with everything, from leading Lifeworks to helping others with sail trim! Gabby was always keen to help with anchor team and loves to try to go sailing and windsurfing! Melissa always keeps the Wind Shadow colorful with her beautiful drawings and witty humor. It’s been a fantastic three weeks and we wish you the best in your future endeavors! date: Jul 28, 2017

A Last Day Full of Tears and Smiles

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Alexia N.
Today started like any other day: Jake blasting our usual playlist into the stereo at 6:30am. However, today was not like every other day, it is our last day. Early in the morning, the skippers from our fleet met to discuss the race that we were going to have. We started off the race at the tip of Norman Island, in the direction of Road Town. After a successful tack in front of the capital’s harbor, we sailed smoothly towards Great Harbor on Peter Island, where we crossed the finish line 3rd (from last)! Despite the lack of wind, the race was extremely fun as we were all very close to each other and were fighting for the top places. After the race, we started the final cleanup. We had to clean absolutely everything: the galley, the cabins, the salon, the heads, all the cabinets, and of course, the whole deck. Nevertheless, we had fun doing it, as we always do. For lunch, we had free time on shore, which we spent eating at the delicious restaurants on the West End dock. At around 7 all the students came together for one last amazing BBQ. The evening was one of laughter, but also tears, as we all cherished our last moments together. After a long day, we went to sleep, grateful for the amazing memories we made here, and thankful for all the thing the staff and fellow shipmates did to make our stay so memorable. date: Jul 27, 2017

Our Last Day at Sea

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Gabby M.
We started the day off with an early breakfast and a quick sail to the Rhone shipwreck. After learning about the history and story of the ship, my shipmates and I were very intrigued to see what was left of it. We were all excited to go scuba diving where we pointed out parts of the boat and recognized multiple species of fish. During this dive, my diving group members and I spotted a black tip reef shark. After 30 mins of being 35ft underwater, my shipmates and I got ready for a hike to Salt Island where we took many group photos and got to enjoy the breath taking view from up above. We got back to the boat and had some ramen noodles for lunch and used the rest for a food fight. Today was fun especially since we knew we had to cherish our last few moments together and make every second count. date: Jul 26, 2017

Chill Day

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Nat M.
We woke up to track 09 today. Right after we woke up we went for a quick wakeboard trip before breakfast. After a few falls we had pancakes waiting for us. After cleanup, we chilled for a while and played some cards. Then we headed to Road Town for some shore time and ate, got more water and sailed some more. Right now we are waiting for breakfast for dinner. date:Jul 25, 2017
