Day 19 – Whirlwind

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Quinlin L.
We started the day at 6:30 for some wakeboarding while we waited for breakfast. Some people were still out when our pancakes were served so we ate in waves. Then the Divemasters who hadn’t already finished their in water portion of the course finished, so we are almost done! Then we made our way over to Road Town for a few hours on shore. Everyone split paths in an effort to find the best place to eat. After eating and spending a few hours on shore we jumped into Blaze with Emma and made our way back to SqueakyB. We were the last to pick up anchor and the first out of the harbor. This just shows why we won the race! After a minute or two of sailing we hit a big storm and were getting pushed around a bit. Now we are getting settled in to the Bight for the night. Well good night and sweet dreams everyone!

Day 18 – Wreck Dive!

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Ben S.
Our whole boat as usual woke up early today barely in time for us to motor over to Salt Island. Very early the divemasters started skill training which they kept up all day. While the DMs were practicing useful drills and skills, the Carina’s and two ships hiked all over Salt Island, taking advantage of the awesome views! We ate a slow lunch and had a relaxing afternoon before heading off to dive a ship wreck. The whole boat spent the entire dive together swimming through openings in the wreck and high-fiving sea turtles. After more skills for the DMs and a goldfish fight we motored over to Great Harbor to spend one of our last nights as shipmates together in this awesome land!

Day 17 – We are the Champions!

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Maddy A.
Today was a very victorious one for the SqueakyBrats. It was quite an abrupt start for Quin, Josie, Rachel and I who slept out on deck last night. We were woken up by a pretty crazy tropical storm. We decided to go with the early wake up and ate the wonderful pancakes our chefs made (which of course we all drenched in Nutella). After breakfast Kris and I attended a skippers briefing for the two races that we had today. First, we raced from Sandy Spit to West End, then from West End to Great Harbor. Fritz was on the helm for the first race and helped us achieve 4th place. We got some shore time in West End and then got right to start our second race of the day. We were pushed back from an early lead by Elowyn Sage and Gemini. However, we slowly pulled ahead thanks to our awesome crew. With Ben on the helm, Annie, Corinna and Alex W. on the sheets and Maddie, Alex H. and everyone else on railmeat (the most important job) we ended up winning!! We anchored in GHP for the night and enjoyed a Mexican themed dinner. It was awesome to reminisce with the boat about fun times throughout the trip. It was filled with a lot of laughs, especially from Britt, Annie, Kris and Josie who had a food fight involving re-fried beans. Tonight the Divemasters are looking forward to a night dive on The Fearless wreck and the Carina’s are having a sail chat with Kris. Today was yet another beautiful day in paradise and I am looking forward to enjoying the last few we have left.

Day 16- Fun Playground Day

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Author: Alex W.

An early but slow start to the day quickly picked up pace as we left our docked position at Sydney’s. We were fast underway as the Carina’s sailing skills were put to the test. Luckily that had been taught exceptionally well and we arrived at Sandy Spit safe and sound. The DMs ventured into the sheltered waters of the island to perform a few of the last DM skills necessary to complete the certification. We were then blessed with the news of a fun dive at one of my favorite dive sites, the Playgrounds. This was my favorite dive of the trip by far, as we spotted a wide array of my favorite underwater creatures, including 2 sharks, a beautiful hag fish, a meandering eel, angel fish and a stunning but invasive lion fish. It was an incredible day as always here on ActionQuest!

Day 15- Canada Day!

Location: Sidney’s, Jost van Dyke
Author: Rachel W.

Today has been such an active day! We woke up at 6 to eat breakfast and prepared for the hike to Mt. Sage at 7. After getting briefed by Mike we all began the hike. For the first time Mt. Sage hikers, the first part of the hike was much steeper than we had been told. The first part was definitely the worst but we all managed to get through that and the rest of the hike! We all signed the leather-bound book (which smelled of rich mahogany) at the top for completing the hike! After resting our legs for a few minutes we began the hike down back to Cane Garden Bay for some free time- miles before 10am! We had a few hours in town and we all enjoyed the free wifi and delicious food. After lunch we headed back to the boat and set sails for the Sandy Cay sandcastle competition. We decided to bury Alex W. and make him into a mer-man! Although we probably didn’t win, we all had a good laugh at our sand masterpiece (editor’s note: Squeakybrat took 2nd place in the competition). We just arrived at Sydney’s for a BBQ and band to end the longest AQ day ever!
