Wind Shadow Staff Update Day 17

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Simon, Kayleigh, and Ben
Session three has flown by and it is now the last day. The staff and shipmates on Wind Shadow have had an amazing time sailing around the beautiful islands of the BVI, where shipmates were able to receive new qualifications. As well as sailing, our shipmates also squeezed in some diving along the way. Some completed their PADI Open Water Diver course and others were able to complete their Advanced Open Water Diver Course, including Boat and Fish ID specialties. Congratulations to our new PADI Divemasters. They were fantastic DMTs and are now on their first step of their professional diving career. Big shout to all the shipmates on board Hannah, Parker, Mat, Caroline, Jonny, Jack, Ale, Soleil, Ewa, Morgan, Jessica, Leela who have become a little family on board our home away from home, bringing constant laughter and adventure the entire trip. We will be very sad to see these amazing shipmates leave. Everyone worked incredibly hard whilst making the most out of this experience. Until next year, session three Wind Shadow signing out! date: Aug 15, 2017

The Finish Line

Location: West End, Tortola

Today is our last full day together! We woke up and ate a wonderful breakfast and started to get ready for our race. We began our race in Norman Island and finished in third place at the finish line at Peter Island. We headed to West End, but we had to pack and clean on the way there. We had a great lunch together and realized this is our last lunch as a boat family. Later we started to break down the program. After a fantastic dinner, we did our last squeeze. It was a wonderful experience and everyone is going home a changed person if they know it or not. date:Aug 14, 2017

We started the day with delicious pancakes this morning made by Leela. We then set up a boom swing and the tricks started. All of the shipmates began to show off their best skills while swinging off the boat into the water. After a few hours of swimming, it was anchors up and off to Road Town for shore time. Many people had lunch in the city and were able to buy our last snacks before we return home. We then sailed over to The Bight at Norman Island and then had quick shower time. The staff then left us alone to cook dinner while they went to a meeting. This was our last cooked dinner and as this is the last session we were allowed to eat everything in the boat. It was amazing and we saw some interesting food combos. After dinner, we were tasked with writing cards for everyone about what we liked and admired about them throughout the trip. date: Aug 13, 2017

Breakfast For Dinner

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Morgan M.
Today we woke up at 6:15am and left Peter Island for a motor to our last dive site. Leela, Jay, and I managed to snorkel through the ripping current over the shipwreck. On our snorkel towards the stern of the boat wreck, we saw a sea turtle casually float by as though we were just another sea creature. It was pretty cool. After all the divers were up we all took our sailing test, which was challenging but successful. We finished our tests then took a dinghy over to an island for a short hike. We hiked to the top of a hill and the view was stunning. After our hike, we went back to the boat and ate lunch. When we finished lunch we headed back to Peter Island to hang out until dinner time. The rest of the day was super relaxed and nice. We had breakfast for dinner, which has been my favorite dinner so far and ended our beautiful day with lots of laughter. date: Aug 12, 2017

Sailing Races and More to Come…

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Jack M.
I have no words to describe how amazing was today. The day started by lifting our anchor from Sandy Spit and navigating to the West End of Tortola where our laundry was waiting for us. When we got to the shore there was a beautiful place very hard to describe, we were all talking to our mates on the other boats about our experiences in our vessels. We all sat down to eat at Pusser’s which by the way has amazing food. When I thought the experiences were about to end for the day, we went into a sailing race that Bella Vita won. Surely it was a memorable day that we will all happily remember for the rest of our lives. date: Aug 11, 2017
