The First Sail Races

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Frances L.
The entire crew and myself started the day with a crisp salty breeze for our faces while filling on a wholesome oatmeal breakfast. Soon after I attended a morning meeting to discuss our sailing positions for the day’s race. Luckily we received the second starting position. I was keen to appoint jobs on the boat for the race- I placed William on the helm while Seth and Collin were on the winches. After the first race, which we came sixth in, we all got lunch at West End. The most thrilling part of the day was when the helm suddenly broke during the second race; even though it was unexpected the crew was able to work together and now we all look back at it laughing!

Man Overboard Drills

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Author: Seth G.
Today started off by the great smell of some French toast cooked by Chef Haynes and Morgan. After we ate we picked up anchor from Sidney’s and headed to Green Cay to practice some man overboard drills! After that, we sailed to a small island and threw the frisbee and chilled out in the water while the divemasters went diving at The Playgrounds. That pretty much is what we did today. I’d say it was a very good day! Tonight we have a Lifeworks session with Mike, I wonder what he has in store for us.

All The Way Up

Location: Sydney’s, Jost van Dyke
Author: Collin S.
Today started with a 6 AM wake up accompanied by cereal. Then it was time to head to Cane Garden Bay to begin our 7-mile hike. Me, Haynes, Seth, William, and Trip stuck in a group while Francis, Greg, Shea, Kayla, Kristen, and Gabbie stuck in the group behind us. While the 3 1/2 mile track up was struggling, painful, and sometimes regretful, the final destination was most definitely worth it. When our group finally reached the peak of the mountain the view was absolutely stunning. Me, Haynes, Will, and Trip all wrote our names down in the book and we all finished in the top 20 hikers to reach the top, while Morgan finished in 10th, rallying all of us on Erocibar. Accompanying this fulfilling moment, we all got banana smoothies and prepared to head back down. When we reached the bottom we ate cheeseburgers at the exact restaurant that Jimmy Buffett wrote cheeseburgers in paradise about. After having some cheeseburgers in paradise we did our final shopping and headed to an island to build sand castles. Our boat decided to build an anchor with the ActionQuest logo in the middle. After making an awesome anchor we loaded up again. We are now setting sail for Sydney’s barbecue to have a great time.

Cotton Candy Sunset

Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
Author: Morgan M.
On day 14, two weeks into the trip, we woke up at 9am and had oatmeal for breakfast. After we were done we cleaned up, then the divemasters set up the dive gear on the boat to get ready for the open water and advanced open water students so they could do their last two dives for their certifications so it was an exciting morning. As they were doing their final certifications dives the divemasters went for a navigation skill deep dive and the rest of our boat was taken wakeboarding with Megan and Mike. We came back up from our dive and the rest of the boat crew was brought back and we actually watched a movie about Irving Johnson sailing crew from back in the day. We had tuna sandwiches for lunch, cleaned quick, then left Muskmelon Bay to sail over to Cane Garden Bay to get ready for the seven-mile hike tomorrow morning. When we arrived in Cane Garden we made and ate Thai peanut chicken and rice for dinner as well as cake/brownie mixes for desert and settled down for a movie and bed because we completed our sail/dive chat ahead of schedule. What a great day.
