Day 16- Trust Me, I’m A Professional

Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Author: Ian F.

Today I found myself in recovery mode from running to the top of Mt. Sage. Since I got to the top first, I really had to push myself and in doing so I drained all of my energy. So today I rested while the Vega shipmates took their practicals. Once they were finished I set up my dive gear so I could do a Discover Scuba Diving workshop where my fellow DM’s act ridiculous and I have to settle them down all while sitting at around 20ft under the surface. At one point all 3 DMs in “class” were acting up (how they were instructed to by our instructor) as if it was their first time underwater. Carlos was throwing his mask and swimming away from the group. After I settled him down I found Jamie looking at the sand, literally just centimeters from the ocean floor. Once I helped her out and got her out and got her back to the proper stance, I had to tend to Kathleen who was inverted and floating away. They all did a great job handling me so I believe I had it coming. After we got out we all talked about how much fun it was and what people were doing in the other groups. A great way to end another great day in the BVI.

Day 15- Exhausting Excursions

Location: Sidney’s, Jost van Dyke
Author: Ally V.

Rising bright and early, we scarfed breakfast and hurriedly prepared for the day ahead. We all pile into Scarface, our dinghy and puttered to the dock where Mike briefed us on the hike. From literal sea level we hiked all the way across Tortola and trudged to the top of the tallest mountain in the Virgin Islands, Mt. Sage. As a reward we got a spectacular view of Road Town and some amazingly delicious banana smoothies. Sweating and exhausted, Phebe and I finally reached the foot of the mountain and Cane Garden Bay. After having cheeseburgers in paradise we got deliciously cold ice cream and headed back to Gemini. We quickly set sail for Sandy Spit to have a sand castle building contest. After going through some pretty great ideas we decided to build a giant mask and snorkel with a hand giving the “ok” signal. On top of that, to celebrate finishing our DM test, we added the words “PADI Pro” to it. Now we set off for a BBQ and dance at Sydney’s on Jost van Dyke- a great way to end a great (and exhausting) day!

Day 14- A Big Day on Gemini

Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
Author: Jamie J.

Today was a big day aboard our lovely vessel Gemini. The day started early and after a quick breakfast and quick motor around the corner, we found ourselves back at Muskmelon Bay. Today was a rotation day, so the divemasters assisted with open water student dives. The Vega shipmates started the day with some diving, followed by some wakeboarding and waterskiing, and finally enjoyed an informational video about the waters we have been sailing in the past two weeks. We then all reunited back on Gemini for some lunch. After finishing lunch we set sail for Cane Garden Bay where we anchored for the night. After refueling we did a massive boat cleaning because we wanted to invite Mike, the AQ director, to dinner. After a delicious dinner prepared by our fabulous chefs, we did an awesome activity with Mike. On the table he set out a pack of black and white postcards and were instructed to pick 3- one that represented something we’re proud of, one that represented what we’re not proud of and one that represented what we thought a good friend should be. After selecting our cards we shared them with the group. We had some laughs but also really got closer and connected with each other. After a boat party/dancing dishwashing party, the Vegas are having a sail chat and the DMs are taking our 120 question test to earn our DM certifications! Wish us luck!
