Grand Triwizard and Master of the Aquatic Realms

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Matt H.
We did our first search and recovery dive and a 10 mile sail in rough seas only to have arrived at Mountain Point for a little snorkel off the boat. After our freshwater shower we all chowed down on Mexican Night. Some of us (Cal and I) came up with a call sign for Marina, hence the blog title. Somehow we eventually ended up in the salon writing this blog. The dive chat is coming up soon. Oh! I almost forgot to elaborate on the day. During the dive we practiced different search patterns and recovered a weight belt and a toy crab. We also somehow managed to sail almost the entire way to Mountain Point on one tack. In total we saw a massive grouper, flying fish, albatross, yellowfin, and a shark!

Roadtown and GHP

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Sofia A.
After managing to sleep through a very rainy night we woke up to an even rainier morning. We were at GHP (Great Harbor, Peter Island) and as soon as breakfast clean-up was over we got ready for our second rescue training. We took turns playing “victim” while Sam and Marina taught us all about throwing aids at tired or panicked divers and how to make the most of of flotation devices. We sailed to Road Town where we had lunch, called home, and bought snacks. The sail back to GHP was definitely the funniest part of the day; everyone was in the trampoline of our cat and got soaked because of the waves. With our anchors down, we swam around the boat and had salt water showers. Aaron joined us for dinner (chili and rice), Eleanor Roosevelt joined us for our squeeze and quote and the whole boat helped during clean up. With another beautiful BVI sunset ending our day we can’t wait for what tomorrow may bring.

Wacky Wavey Inflatable Arm Flinging Tube-Men (and other unrelated blog titles)

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Cal G.
Today was our coolest dive so far even though it’s only our first day. Our first activity other than eating breakfast involved diving a site called Coral Gardens. Once you go down there you get to see a sunken plane and an entire area full of coral and sea life. After our first dive we then went to an area called the Chimneys and did our first rescue training. The rescue training involved some basic “how to help panicked divers” and some self help techniques. Since rescue training did not use much air in our tanks we got to have some fun scuba diving with the remaining air we had. It has been a very long day and all I want right now is for it not to rain.

Rescue Lessons Begin

Location: Savannah Bay, Virgin Gorda
Author: Jeronimo A.
Today we had our first dive pretty early right after breakfast. We practiced a navigation dive that we did in advanced. After the dive we sailed to Blonde Rock and had a 25 minute dive. The dive was really fun since we saw a shark, a squid, and other fish. Then we sailed for 2 hours to Virgin Gorda. We had a really exciting day and had lots of fun. After dinner we are going to have our first rescue lesson and we are going to sleep more.

The First and The Few

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Nathan M.
I await the arrival of the first of our shipmates as I sit with Emelia our honorary boat member. It has been the best day weather and sunrise since last session ended oh so many days ago. The other shipmates arrive slowly, it seems we made a few other friends in our very short time here and to be honest there is an air of excitement on the boat as we await the last of the shipmates.
