Adventure in the Baths

Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Author: Ben F.
Today we went to the Baths. We set sail early in the morning. The wind filled our sails as we sped towards the Baths. When we got there we got to jump off of a large rock into the water. We then pulled into port to refuel and replenish some supplies. We got to shop. Lastly we came to anchor in Savanna Bay and we spent the night there. I am surely looking forward to another day in the BVI!

Day 3

Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Author: Jonny D.
Today is as sunny as a beach ball, with little wind but huge gusts. The sea had little white tips, but was quite choppy, while we sailed the ocean for five hours. We started in the Bight leaving at 9:30am and set off to Ginger Island, where the Barracudas had a scuba adventure. The Vegas had lunch so after the Barracudas had lunch we set off for Savanna Bay. On the way we learned “heaving to” a trick to stop the boat quickly. After arriving in Savanna Bay we went waterskiing while the Vegas learned how to put together scuba gear. While having lunch at Ginger Island, 20-30 seagulls gathered behind our boat squeaking endlessly. This has happened for a few days before and they are highly entertaining to feed. Today was a very fun day and hopefully will be like many days to come.

First Sail

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Author: Will L.
The day started very wet. The rain never seemed to stop and the wind didn’t help either. This was my first full hour awake on Mary Jewell, a great start. After a long wait for the rain to stop we got going. We moved to a mooring ball for lunch. After another wait we got the go ahead and set out on the maiden voyage of the trip. The sea got rougher and soon it felt like we were surfing. At this time the pirate conversations were by far the funniest thing of the day. Tonight’s meal of sloppy joes was amazing. Tomorrow is going to be so good sailing all day, I can’t wait.

The Vast Blue Ocean

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Rory G.
Today all of the shipmates arrived tired, but ready to meet their boat families. Next on the agenda was a 45 minute crazy taxi ride from the airport to the dock. When we got to the dock we were kindly greeted by our boat’s staff, Averill, Mike, and Tom. Shipmates arrived between 1:30 and 10:30. Right away we took the swim test. That night for dinner we had tortellini with sauce. After dinner we set up our sleeping arrangements. Most people slept on deck. About an hour later we were all awakened by a rain storm. We can’t wait to go sailing tomorrow.
