Rotation Day

Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
Author: Duncan K.
Today was another great day aboard Mary Jewell. We woke up to a great breakfast of oatmeal. After that some of us went wakeboarding and the others just chilled. Later in the morning we went scuba diving. While diving we saw aero crabs, eels, and many other exotic fish. After the exciting morning we had chicken salad sandwiches for lunch. In the afternoon most of us went to Magpie Bridge while the others were either diving or gone with Lifeworks. Once the movie ended we decided to go swimming. After that rotation we went and did boat appreciation (BA). After that we had Anna take pictures of our boat jumping into the water (as a group). Next we went and took showers and settled in for dinner. For dinner we had tomato stroganoff, which was awesome. By far today was an awesome rotation day.

Day 10

Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island

This morning isn’t an average morning. We had delicious pancakes for breakfast. Right after we took off from Marina Cay we took a practice sailing test about doing sailing moves like a tack or jibe. Apparently I was the last one to do it so I was kinda nervous but after the practice test it was very easy. I think I’m going to pass the sailing test in a couple of days. Once everyone was done we ate lunch at Lee Bay. We ate ramen noodle soup which was actually one of the best meals on the trip. Later we did a man overboard drill. They took a bucket and a fender which they called Steve and threw it overboard. Then we saved Steve and started to head to Guana Island where we will spend the night. I don’t know what we will do tomorrow but I know it will be fun.

This morning we woke up and set sail, or rather motor, for the Dogs. Our breakfast was scrambled eggs and blueberry muffins. The muffins were along the lines of brownies or a cake because they were cooked in a pan because we do not have a muffin mold. Because we were moving when we ate all the dishes were left until later. When we got to the Dogs eight of us dove and did our emergency skills in open water, two of us snorkeled, an the last of us dove doing other things because he has dove more. It was after we were done diving we cleaned the dishes and moved to another one of the Dogs so that another boat could go diving. Lunch came at that point, it was grilled cheese. Once we were done cleaning up we truly set sail and went to Marina Cay. I skippered the boat and we did lots of jibes and tacks. When we got here we showered and then went to port. While at port we called our families and got various things in the shop that was there, and got the boat’s water tanks full. Our dinner was teriyaki noodles, chicken, and salad. We rushed the cleaning because we had to get to a Lifeworks meeting. During the meeting we listened to a tape. I cannot explain the tape, but Mike said that we could email him if we wanted a copy. When we got back we made brownies. Cate and Cleo did most of the cooking, so hats off to them. I must thank my shipmates for spell checking my entry.

Rotation Day

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound

Today was a pretty fast day, but we had a lot of fun! First thing we did was various teamwork games, like a game that you are in a circle and you grab somebody with a hand and grab somebody else with the other, turning like a human knot which we had to figure out how to untie ourselves and your teammates, which was nearly impossible. For our second activity we went riding on the Pico, well me and Lucas and Duncan and Edgardo, the others didn’t want to participate. It ended up with me and Lucas getting to land no problem, but Duncan and Edgardo got stuck on the sea in a certain area for a while. After that we went swimming for ten minutes and got lunch. At lunch we ate fruit salad and mac and cheese, which was pretty good. When we got suntan lotion on we were ready for the third activity, which was sailing on a Hunter. On one boat it was Duncan, Cleo, Lucas, Cate, Richard, and Jack, and on the other boat there was Kiara, Santiago, Edgardo, Kordell, Mia, Liz, and Kat. We had fun because we discovered part of Jack’s life and we played the question game. Right now we are going to play charades.

Every Day I’m Shufflin’

Today was a nice day, with nice weather. We woke up, ate oatmeal, got dressed, and were on our way to rotations. Today’s option: windsurfing. Now personally, I think that windsurfing is difficult, but some people make it look sooo easy. It took me forever to get up, and then when I did, start moving. I fell and stopped my attempt shortly afterwards. We also found a baby starfish, and named him Steve! But we put him back. Then we had lunch, which was sandwiches. Our boat witnessed Santiago eat his first PB+J. They were good sandwiches. After our lovely meal we went (four people to a boat) to wakeboard, waterski, or kneeboard. I had tried to wakeboard on our first rotation, but I never actually got up. I did get up this time, except awkwardly fell after about three seconds. The only person in our dinghy who actually got up and stayed up was Cleo. It was very impressive. We then proceeded to go snorkeling, where we saw multiple fish, a couple of lobters, and a stingray. Now we are getting ready for our beach BBQ and dance. I thought it was a great day!
