Diving Day!

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Africa B.
We had a late start this morning, so unfortunately we didn’t have time to make pancakes, but instead we had cereal. Today was a rotation day. First of all, we learned about navigation, then we practiced picking up mooring balls. Then we had lunch which was grilled cheese! It was delicious! After lunch we all went diving. Vegas had their first open water dive! It was so much fun! We saw lots of fish and awesome coral. There were lots of jellyfish and we saw a stingray! Vegas went 35 feet deep, and Carinas 60 feet. We can’t wait til our next dive! After the dive we sailed Picos on Vivo Libre. It was a lot of fun! Now we are about to have dinner- turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. It smells quite good. Today it was cloudy and there was barely any wind. I really liked the weather today. I think Mountain Point is my favorite place that I’ve been. It’s so relaxing! I love it here! It looks like it is going to rain tonight. I can see big grey clouds coming! It has been a great day, each day gets better. I can’t wait for tomorrow!

Day 9

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Susannah J.
Today was an early start for the chefs and me. Surprisingly, it didn’t rain last night, so I slept on the deck the whole night! Anyways, I got the privilege of playing the morning CD at 6am. We had a slow start, but at 6:30 we raised anchor and started motoring to Mountain Point. We had breakfast on the way. It was another rotation day! First we had man overboard drills on our our boat. The Vegas took their dive tests while the Carinas sat down and just talked. Then we came back to the boat to have lunch. After we cleaned up we all went to the dive boat. The Vegas went on another confined water dive while the Carinas took a dinghy and did our underwater naturalist dive. It was a lot of fun! After that we went to Vivo Libre and did watersports. I was with Josie and Nina. I went kneeboarding and wakeboarding. I can get up, I just can’t stay in the wake! Josie went wakeboarding, and so did Nina. Nina got up for her first time! It was very exciting! We took our showers and are listening to music while the chefs are making dinner. It’s amazing how fast time passes here! Brandon, Oscar, Chris, and I are all very excited for our night dive tonight! Nina is a little apprehensive, but I think we all are going to have a lot of fun!

Jellyfish Day!

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Oscar D.
Well, today was an interesting day. To start, last night was the party so everyone was slow to get up. Soon after we woke up we ate, and then we went to the beach. We were supposed to go windsurfing and Pico sailing, but we spent most of the time in awe at the five jellies around us. After a few minutes David exclaimed “When I am rich and successful, I want a huge tank full of jellyfish.” After he said that I dared him to touch one. He was restrained at first and eventually he felt it and astoundingly said that it feels like jelly. We all started to feel them and then it was time for the Carinas to dive and the Vegas to sail the smaller boats. When we were all back together we went snorkeling with Tucker and Tom. We saw barracudas, lionfish, and feather duster plants, and of course, jellies. We went back to the boat and had showers for about ten minutes because there were so many jellies. Well, we are all so excited for Mexican night, so I have to go help… bye.

Jake’s Mac and Cheese

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Chris
Today we woke up in Vixen Point. The boats were all tied together in a raft. We had cereal for breakfast. From there we split into our two scuba groups. After we did knots with Mike. Many of us attempted monkey’s fists. As lunch was being prepared we got a warning from Ocean Star that a storm was coming in so we quickly took down the laundry some of us did yesterday. The storm passed fairly quickly so we ate our mac and cheese in the cockpit prepared by amazing Jake. We were one of the few boats to brave the rain. After lunch we cleaned up and we swam over to the beach. We played volleyball with some of the other boat’s shipmates, swam, windsurfed, and sailed. A few people went waterskiing and whatnot. Then the other boats from dive side came in. We played a game representing baby turtles hatching. You had to crawl through your relay line symbolizing the egg hatching, run to a fender, put our head on it and spin seven time, representing disorientation, then run to the water tring to avoid the staff members trying to push you over, all dizzy, representing predators. It was neck to neck but then the last person on one team tripped right before the water and the other team took the win. After we went to port, grabbed some snacks, and left the docks tied together with Vivo Libre. It was teamwork. Now we are showering and getting ready for the BBQ!

Sail Away!

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Unknown
Today we woke up in Savanna Bay and had french toast for breakfast. We then went on a long, peaceful sail to the small island of Anegada. We played in the water and hung out on the beach. One highlight was learning all of our knots. The sail back was pretty quiet considering we all had tons of scuba homework, but it ended with an awesome dance party! We arrived at Vixen Point and attached to the other boats. We are looking forward to the party tomorrow!
