Mermaids in Baseball Caps

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Rebecca L.
After last night’s tiresome but really exciting night dive we awoke at 8 am anchored at GHP. Grand Cru then enjoyed a breakfast of scrambled eggs and highly anticipated lemon poppy seed muffins. We motored further down GHP and both the Neptune’s and Dolphins set up their dive gear. The five awesome Neptunes along with our amazing dive instructor Greg dove the Fearless. The dive was part of our wreck specialty and it was by far the best dive so far. We saw some beautiful fish and the wreck was really cool. Meanwhile the Dolphins participated in a research dive where they used quadrants to study the coral reef. At the end of the Neptune’s wreck dive Caroline dropped my weight belt upon entering the dinghy so Greg free dove to retrieve it. After returning to Grand Cru the chefs made grilled cheese for lunch then the Dolphins worked on their research papers while the Neptune discussed their wreck dive while sunbathing. Afterwards, the Dolphins went on an invertebrate snorkel. And the Neptunes went on a fun boat dive with Haley. Our dive was so much fun as the Neptune mermaids, Caroline, Katie, Tillie, Tierney, and myself dove in baseball caps. We enjoyed some time to relax before making thanksgiving dinner. But terror broke our when Tillie accidentally threw an egg at Matt rather than into the ocean. Dinner was amazing due to the amazing culinary skills of Katie and Tillie, now we are excited to shower as we are getting new towels.

Pablo G. – 2011-07-14

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Pablo G.
Today in the morning we had our best sail thanks to Captain Pablo. We sailed for about three hours with no problems. Later this afternoon we had a lecture on underwater photography and the staff showed us how to use cameras in the correct way. We scuba dove with the cameras and took many pictures. This was the deepest dive so far at about 50 feet for about 30 minutes. After this tiring day we slept on the trampoline and worked on our tans. Fun Day!

How Far We’ve Come

Location: Vixen Point, Prickly Pear
Author: Matt P.
The day started off with a dive. We then sailed over to Leverick Bay where we waited an hour and a half to get our food. We then moved on to Vixen Point where Dolphins snorkeled for mangrove life and Neptunes enjoyed the pleasure of a lecture from Greg. We then went to the Beach party. As we go about our day, both hectic and satisfying we get to know our shipmates for all their strengths and weaknesses. As we learned to communicate with them we come to terms with our own weaknesses and strengths and grow as people because of it. As members of Action Quest we come to learn. Little did we know how much we’d learn about ourselves. Then, the relationships form after a week. However, a week on Action Quest seems much longer than a week back home. Being around the same people almost 24/7 can make relationships accelerate to an extent incomparable to any other experience. Within the first week the guys had already almost become brothers and the girls a tight knit group. I guess as a whole all there is to say is the whole crew has grown up a little and its only the first week.

Chimney’s and Coral Gardens

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Katie T.
Today we had two dives and two lectures. Our first dive was in the Chimney’s. We went through caves and saw some really cool fish. Then we sailed over to Coral Gardens and saw a plane wreck underwater. After we men had a dive chat about underwater naturalists and learned about how to identify fish. Everyone was pretty tired after last night’s night dive so we all took naps. Tonight for dinner we ate tomato stroganoff with garlic bread made by Tierney and Pablo. It was delicious! Tonight we are heading to our second life works forum and get to be with the kids from another boat.
