Day 9 – Sunset

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Ryan G.
Today was an interesting day for Rangitoto Too. For starters we had two specialty dives in one day, one wreck and one night. It was also the first day our dive count outnumbered our day count, so now it’s day 9 and we’ve done 10 dives logged. The night dive has yet to take place but the wreck dive took place at the RMS Rhone. Right now the sun is setting and it is really making me understand how lucky I am to be here. The best part of the Rhone was when we saw a spotted eagle ray. It was giant! and graceful as it slowly circled our little pack of divers. Before I came to this camp, I went with my dad to go diving in an aquarium, it just is different, I guess it was the breathtaking-ness of the creature. I also got to take some time to sail the boat today, it was nice because I had not done it in a few days and it was nice. It also gave us the opportunity to talk wit my skipper Matt. We talked about computers for like an hour, it was fun. “Wow” you must be thinking this is long, but don’t worry, it is almost over. The last thing I will discuss is “Brownookies”. They are these heavenly combination of brownies and cookies. Please make them at home. OK then, Bye! Turtle.

Day 8 – Deep Dive

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Author: Gabbie K.
Today we woke up to a nice yogurt and bagel breakfast. Following breakfast we went on a long and relaxing sail, most of us slept but other people took charge of the hem (steering wheel of the boat) once we arrived at our dive site for the day, Great Harbor Peter, we put together all of our dive gear. Then we had a scuba lecture about staying safe while deep diving. Then we ate deli sandwiches and got into the water for our first deep dive. Once we reached 70 feet, we found out some really cool things, First of all we brought down a slate with a bunch of colors on it, and we saw that red, pink, and orange drastically changed. After that we did a number game to show how thinking slows down. Finally, our instructor cracked a bunch of eggs and we found that they stick together. The yolk does not spread. That was definitely the coolest part of the dive. Once we came up from our dive we got our first opportunity to wakeboard. Some of us went with Matt and some of us learned how to drive a dinghy. It was all so fun! Finally we got together for everyones favorite meal, Mexican night! After dinner, we witnessed an amazing sunset. It was a great day and I am so excited for tomorrow!

Day 7 – Barbecue!

Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Author: Meriel M.
This morning we woke up and had some pretty delicious cinnamon-sugar toast. After breakfast, we went on our first fish ID dive, and we got to navigate by ourselves. The 15 year-olds went on the dive all by themselves, without the staff! We then put all of our gear up and played cards for hours, like we do almost every day. We like playing cards. Then we went to port at Leverick Bay and had lunch and bought lots of groceries. After that we went to the beach and played some pretty intense volleyball. Now we’re all getting ready for the barbecue tonight! We’re all definitely ready for some burgers and music. Can’t wait!

Day 6 – First Wreck Dive

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Reese O.
This morning, almost right after breakfast, we went on our first of two dives. The dive was meant for fun; we visited a place called the Chimneys. We saw lots of coral and fish, as well as a species of angelfish I hadn’t seen before. We got to swim through a narrow crevice into a cave-like room. It was a challenging dive for me. Ore next dive was near a wreck. It was an airplane that had been sunk for a movie. Along the way, on sand flats dotted with corals we saw conch shells and hermit crabs. Today was fun filled and I can’t wail for tomorrow!

Day 5 – The Baths

Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Author: Carmela P.
Today we got up bright and early and had ourselves a yummy oatmeal breakfast on the go. We motored over to the Baths for a great, overcast day. We all hiked through the massive boulders and finally found the rocks we could jump off!! As we jumped and re-jumped into the crystal clear water, it started raining, but we didn’t let that stop us! Then we hopped back on the boat and sailed over to Spanish Town. In Spanish Town, we had a really good lunch and we got out phones back. Mostly all of us went to the grocery store and bought some of our favorite snacks. Then we went for a sail to Mountain Point and got up to 9 knots. After waiting for about 15 minutes to get a mooring ball, we finally did. We had a quick briefing before we could go snorkeling here at Mountain Point. Then we hopped in the water and went for a snorkel. We saw all sorts of things and scoped out the area for our night dive tonight. We ate dinner after and did our squeeze. Now, we are cleaning up and starting to gear up for our night dive!! Everyone is so pumped for our dive tonight! Overall, today has been a great day ending with only a few bumps and scratches!
