BBQ Day

Location: Kaaya M.
Author: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
This morning we traveled to a beautiful dive spot named the Playgrounds. Dolphins did their second research dive about visibility and coral reefs while the Neptunes did a fun dive. Dolphins saw a hawksbill sea turtle on the way back to the boat. We then went to a small island with the clearest water surrounding it. We wandered around the island until it started raining. Then we returned back to the boat to shower and get ready for the BBQ. The BBQ took place on the small island called Sandy Spit. We ate great food and took amazing photos. After the BBQ we went back to the boat and went to bed.

Thanksgiving in August!

Location: Sofia M.

After waking up around 7 am, we quickly set sail from Muskmelon Bay to Brewers Bay. When we arrived at Shark Point, we splashed in our dive gear for the first dive of the day. The Dolphins worked underwater on their project while the Neptunes did their final training dive for their boat diver specialty. We saw a sea turtle along with a juvenile trunkfish, 6 tarpons, and a spotted drum. After taking a quick break, we went on our second dive of the day. Dolphins completed an underwater digital photo dive and the Neptunes did a fun dive. After diving, we had soup for lunch. While the Dolphins went turtle tagging, the Neptunes had a lecture about dive equipment. We had a relay race to see which team could set up dive gear the fastest. While the Neptunes waited for the Dolphins to return, we played cards. When they got back, we all took saltwater showers in the rain. Then we motored from Shark Point to Jost Van Dyke where we had a Thanksgiving dinner. We ate stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, chicken, and green bean casserole. After we did the squeeze and all said what we are thankful for. Now we are playing more cards while Jimmy and Tara make chocolate fondue. Later, we are going to Happy Our for a Lifeworks forum. Overall, today was a great day!

Braving the Storm

Location: Millin M.

Today was an eventful one to say the least! We started the day off with the sun blazing bright and early in GHP. We were treated to a delicious serving of eggs courtesy of Jimmy and Troy, alongside delicious fresh fruit and cereal. Matt requested for us to put on our PFDs immediately after breakfast so that we could quickly motor to the other side of GHP. Once we arrived, the Neptunes and Dolphins split up. Us Neptunes set up our dive gear in a jiffy, as we are trained professionals now. We then gingerly placed our dive gear and cylinders in a small dinghy and motored over to Happy Our which was moored on the Fearless wreck. After going over the dive briefing and how to map the wreck, we went diving from the dinghy, Navy seal style. We were in pairs of two and were given a slate to map the wreck on. Some things we had to record were the hazards, entries and exits, points of interest, and heading of the wreck. It felt like drawing a school project that we would be graded on. It was extremely fun and hilarious. Although communication was difficult, Jimmy and I got through it with our gestures and head bobbing. After the dive, the Neptunes moved back to Luna and saw the Dolphins finishing up their shark dissection! After morning activities, we traveled to Road Town where we ate PB&J. Once we arrived, the beautiful blue skies dispersed and a huge downpour of rain took us by surprise. We journeyed through the town soaking wet and were surprised to visit the parade that was happening in Road Town. Unfortunately, the parade got canceled due to the storm. After we left Road Town, we moved to Marina Cay where it continued to downpour. All us shipmates sang and danced like siblings and laughed for hours. Finally by nightfall, we arrived at Marina Cay and due to the weather, Lifeworks was carried out on our own boats. We then ended the night watching Moana, our favorite movie. What a beautiful way to end a not so beautiful weather day.

Boat Loads of Fun!

Location: Tara K.

Today was pretty awesome. I started off the day with a delicious bowl of fruit loops and enjoyed the sunrise. We were on our way to the RMS Rhone wreck- a giant shipwreck off of the coast of Salt Island. The Rhone was deemed unsinkable just like the Titanic. The ship ran into a hurricane and struck a submerged rock. Then the people of Salt Island recovered the survivors and the perished. The Queen of England was so pleased with their valor that in return she gave the residents the island and made them exempt from all taxes in return for a pound of salt each year. The salt is still used by the queen on Christmas dinner to this day! The Dolphins practiced their underwater digital photography and we saw a sea turtle! The Neptunes saw a black tip reef shark too! After our dive, we hiked Salt Island and took blog photos. When we got back to the boat I helped the chefs prepare the best lunch ever, grilled cheese. I had tomato in mine. We ate these grilled cheeses as soon as they came out. We then snorkeled the site that we are going to dive tonight. Then, the Dolphins worked on their project proposals. All five of us are working together on the effects that excess sediment has on hard coral. I am so excited about our research dives! Meanwhile, the Neptunes ripped on the water skis and wakeboard. Later we sat down for another great meal, Mexican dinner! I am so full. We are about to go night dive, see you on the flip side!
