Video Update From Week 2
Location: British Virgin Islands
It’s been another busy week in the BVI. Marine Bio research is in full force, most students are now certified scuba divers and many are working hard towards their IYT sailing certifications! We’re now over half way through the trip and some of our students share their experiences so far. #LifeActivated
Day 16 – It’s Just Going Too Fast!
Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Today was the first hay where it really sunk in that the trip was coming to a close. Everyone got over and homesickness and is trying to make the most of the remaining trip. We started the day with a dive at “the playgrounds” dive site. It is called the playground because there is a high amount of aquatic life “playing” there: sharks, octopi, sea turtles, and spotted eagle rays were all spotted today. After lunch, we dove the playgrounds again and even more rare animals were spotted. The dolphins started working on their research papers today while the Neptunes went to the beach. Both activities were completed with equal levels of enjoyment. After this, everyone took showers and gathered for a delicious dinner of franks and beans. Everyone is having a great time and I can’t believe it’s ending so soon!

Day 15 – They Call It The Spirit Breaker
Location: Sydney’s, Jost van Dyke
Today was an unusual and fun day. Instead of spending our time scuba diving throughout the gorgeous coral reefs of the BVI, everybody got up super early to hike Mount Sage. At first, I was terrified to hike this mountain mainly because Marina nicknamed the first 20 minutes of the hike “the spirit breaker. However, after the hike began, I met up with some of my friends and made it all the way to the top within the blink of the eye. Once we got there, we were greeted by some of the best cinnamon banana smoothies I’ve ever had. Then, to cool off, we had a sandcastle building contest while I was molded into a mermaid and had hermit crabs placed on top of me. It was amazing to see everyone so happy together, it was the best!

Day 14 – Just Another Great Day In The BVI’s
Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
We started off the day by pulling our anchor from Sommer’s Beach and motored to Brewers Bay where the Neptunes went diving at the Pinnacles where we saw lots of marine life and swim-throughs. The swim-throughs were super cool! We got back to the boat to have lunch and then the Neptunes were off to dive again at Shark Point where we encountered more swim-throughs and a lion fish. While the Neptunes were diving, the dolphins went turtle tagging but didn’t end up catching one. When all of the shipmates were back on Adonis, we pulled our anchor and motored to Cane Garden Bay where we restocked on water. We ate dinner and then went through a speedy clean up with our clean up song to make sure that our boat is the b=cleanest. Later tonight all of dive side is having a movie night. The dolphins are watching a documentary on dolphins and the Neptunes are watching a movie on marine life. Then we are going to bet to make sure we are rested up for the hike tomorrow!

Day 13 – Shark juices
Location: Sommer’s Beach, Tortola
Today started with a late start of 6:45. We then set up for breakfast which consisted of scrambled eggs with a cheeky nando’s sauce and some perfectly baked blueberry muffins. We then got underway to Sommer’s beach and pumped tanks while underway, we made a quick stop at Monkey Point to do the dolphin’s 2nd research dive while the Neptunes did a fun dive. Once we all surfaced we made our war to Sommer’s beach where we met up with the rest of dive side and hung out and played games. When we got back all the dolphins did a shark dissection. After cleaning up the shark juices, we decided to go swimming before getting ready for the beach BBQ tonight. I can’t wait to go see all my friends on the other boats but I’m even more excited for tomorrow!
