A Flawless Day on Pure Joy
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today started around 7 am and the shipmates of Pure Joy ate bagels and yogurt for breakfast. Once breakfast was finished and cleaned up, everyone put on their PFDs and got ready to sail. This sail, which was flawless, lasted around 3.5 hours and ended in GHP. Once in GHP, we ate a quick lunch of sandwiches, which were amazing, and then we all set up our dive gear. The Neptunes went on their deep dive and made it to 85 feet. Dolphins had a digital photo dive and took some amazing pictures. Rescue took their dive gear to Moko Jumbie and did their second search and recovery dive, focusing on the expanding square technique. After all the dives ended, we made it back home to Pure Joy so we could shower and eat a great dinner: Mexican night! After dinner came, the lectures and each group expanded their knowledge on various topics. Today was an amazing day and I can’t wait to see whats going to happen tomorrow!

Today was definitely an awesome day! We started the day with some breakfast really early. After doing all the clean up, the rescue students went to set up their dive gear on the bow of Pure Joy, then struggled getting it into the dinghy to transport it 30 ft. to another boat, laughing the whole way. Once we splashed into the water, we sank and two by two practiced search and recovery patterns. Meanwhile, the Neptunes were doing their fish ID dives followed by their boat lecture. Also, the Dolphins did their first underwater naturalist dive followed by a mangrove snorkel. Then we all went to the beach for our first BBQ with all of the AQ students and enjoyed dancing, food and AQ Punch. We are bound to have a great time! Earlier in the day, we went to Leverick Bay and had a great feast for lunch. It was really fun to walk around on land and to phone home. I’m looking forward to tomorrow!

Super Awesome Crazy Plane Wreck
Location: The Dogs
After a semi-sleepless night due to variable rain showers, the members of Pure Joy woke up to a breakfast of eggs and blueberry Brownies. We quickly got out on our way to our next destination… a plane wreck. This was our boats first chance for a wreck dive so people were pretty hyped up. Then, in a flash we were ready for the dive in full gear. We proceeded down into the wreck site and what a site it was! All sorts of crazy cool stuff surrounded the site and an aura of excitement and mystery clouded over the physical plane itself. We explored every nook and cranny and surfaced very excited. Jerry the Cherry (our big red inflatable gummy bear) was almost lost but a dinghy trip saved him. After splitting up for our lectures (Fish ID, Rescue, and Underwater Naturalist), we all came back for a dinner of Veggie Burgers! Over all, it was quite a solid day!

Breakfast consisted of oatmeal as we raced to get to the Baths. Upon arrival, we climbed along the boulders to get to the cliff called Jumping Rock. There were some jellyfish in the water but it was still a fun-filled day. After jumping, everyone dispersed into various activities like exploring caves and hanging out on the beach. Lunch was spent in Spanish Town where we all got together to eat lunch and explore all the shops that the town had to offer. With stomachs full and bags full of souvenirs, we hoisted the sails and moved to Mountain Point where Dolphin and Neptune students snorkeled their night dive site while the rescue divers practiced their new skills. We had beef stroganoff for dinner. The Dolphins and Neptunes counted down the seconds until their first night dive of the trip. Rescue divers focused on essential rescue skills by watching PADI dive videos and engaging in a group discussion on them. Everyone is looking forward to an equally exciting day tomorrow.

Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today started at 6am with our lovely wake up CD. After breakfast rolled on through, we split into our specific programs for the day. Rescue went to do a navigation dive and surface rescue skills. Neptune went to the beach for a game called Ninja and then went for a dive. Dolphin went to dive at the Sand Circles and do leeward vs. windward hike on the island. I loved my day with the Dolphins. During the dive, I saw 27 squid and two stingrays. Seeing the squid and being able to ID them was so amazing. I thought I wasn’t going to see any more animals, but when we went to shore to do our hike, we were greeted by juvenile lemon sharks. This was the best part of the day. Having baby sharks slip by your feet while you wade in the water is an unbelievably, indescribable experience. After the sharks swam away, we went on a hike to see the two sides of the island. I have only ever been on the leeward side of the island, so I’ve never gotten to see the drastically different windward side. As we neared the end of the path, it opened up into a view of giant waves crashing across the rocks. After ocean showers we cleaned up and made chili for dinner. Mike came to visit us and do an activity called Cards in order to help our boat bond even more than we already have. Everyone is so excited for the Baths tomorrow, so we are all going to bed early.
