Sour Our Theatre Co.

Location: Jacob W.
Author: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Hannah, Sydnei, and Mike woke up at 4 am to prank Happy Our. They executed the plan perfectly because Happy Our woke up having no utensils and only clues telling them how to get them back. However, they came early before breakfast to retrieve their utensils. This all occurred near Sandy Spit before we departed for West End. Back in West End, we went shopping and ate at D’ Best Cup Cafe. They have the best smoothies ever! We then sailed to GHP while eating lunch and we almost lost a bowl of cheese overboard. Alix was at the helm during the sail and got really excited because the depth gauge read 163 ft., which is very deep in the BVIs. Later on Peter Island, we went diving at the Fearless wreck, which is cool. While the Dolphins and Neptunes were diving, the Rescues played a review game because their rescue test is tomorrow. Happy Our performed a skit which was the final task they had to do to retrieve all of their utensils. Even though they weren’t happy about the prank this morning, they were good sports in the end. They redeemed themselves and got back their name Happy Our… instead of Sour Our. The Rescues have a night dive later, while the Neptunes and Dolphins study for their test tomorrow or work on their final paper. If we finish early, we will watch a movie. The day will end when the Rescues come back on board and we will eat brownies.

Longest (and Best) Day Ever

Location: Sidney’s, Jost van Dyke
Author: Alix B.
Known as the “longest day ever”, today was filled with land activities and fun! Pure Joy started their adventures with cereal at 6 am when we proceeded to meet all of AQ on the dock at Cane Garden Bay to start the infamous 6-mile hike! Uphill one-way, downhill the other, with a nice refreshing smoothie when we reached the top of Mount Sage. The hike was a challenge for many, but Pure Joy placed 4 of our shipmates in the top 20. Next, we had time to explore Cane Garden Bay where many of us enjoyed a juicy cheeseburger or a delicious veggie alternative. A lot of ice cream and passion fruit smoothies were thoroughly enjoyed along with the joy of calling home! Around 1 pm, we headed to Sandy Cay where there was an AQ sand castle building contest. Pure Joy decided we were going to replicate our dinghy named Work Boat with Jerry (our inflatable gummy bear) as the driver. Though we did not make it in the top 3, our masterpiece was definitely a winner. As we headed back to sea, we went around the corner of the island to Little Bay, Jost Van Dyke, where we would later enjoy a night of great food, fun shopping and music at Sydneys Peace and Love. There was BBQ chicken and some amazing coconut ice cream! Day 15 was one for the books and our 17-hour day had no effect on our outgoing and smiley personalities. Until next time…

Snaked: Portlandia Edition

Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
Author: Hannah C.
Today was another great day at ActionQuest. We woke up bright and early and had oatmeal while we motored over to Brewer’s Bay. Once in Brewer’s Bay we did some action cleaning and made our boat look beautiful. Next, we split up into our separate programs. Neptunes did a deep dive and Dolphins did a dive too and went turtle tagging. Rescues started off by doing the jack stay exercise for our final search and recovery dive. After that dive we ate lunch which was quesadillas. YUM!!! Next the Rescues went on a fun dive at Shark Point but we sadly didn’t see any sharks. After all, of that, we all came back to Pure Joy and motored over to Cane Garden Bay. On the motor over, all the rescue students took the Emergency First Responder test and we all passed! When we reached Cane Garden Bay, we filled up with water. Oh, but I almost forgot that before we could fill up with water we had to motor around the anchorage for about an hour because Portlandia snaked our spot on the dock before we could go! It’s okay though, we are all still friends! After getting water, we anchored 3 times before we found the perfect spot to sleep tonight. Then we had some time to chill out and talk with friends and we got to take freshwater showers. I wish we took ocean showers though because I love swimming. We just ate Thai peanut chicken for dinner, which was very yummy, and we got to watch the most beautiful sunset. Every time we looked over at the sunset, it became more beautiful. Now we are cleaning and will soon split up so half of the boat can watch the Cove. The rescue students will learn how to use emergency oxygen. So overall, today was a very fun day as per usual and I cant wait to spend more amazing days with all of my Pure Joy family.

BBQ and Diving

Location: Sommer’s Beach, Tortola
Author: Nathaniel D.
This morning we woke up pleasantly to the morning CD and prepared a breakfast of eggs and fruit. After clean up, we separated into groups, the Dolphins moved to Luna Kahuna with the Neptunes to dive at Monkey Point. We all saw lots of fish, for example, smooth trunkfish (the king of all fish). While we were diving, the Rescue students were undergoing training and running scenarios to learn how to get an unconscious diver onto a boat or dock. Meanwhile, the Dolphins and Neptunes split up so that the Neptunes could enjoy some nice beach time and the Dolphins could begin dissecting a shark and work on their research projects. Once finished, some of the Dolphins joined the Neptunes on the beach for a while before having to go back to the boat. Soon after, the rescue students joined the rest of the boat to study and talk. Not to long after, Mike gave us a briefing over the radio about tonights barbecue. I can’t wait to enjoy some great burgers on the beach!
