Last Day

Location: West End, Tortola
Author: Aaron R.
We started the day off with a morning dive of the Indians. It was a great last dive with loads of cool coral and fish. Then we started the Big Clean, yay! A good two and a half hours spent making the boat spotless, scrubbing every nook an cranny. After the Big Clean we had lunch in West End while the instructors finished cleaning. Then we hung out an finished cleaning until the BBQ. It really sucks that today is the last day and I can’t believe how fast its gone by and we’ve all become so close it seems so unreal that everybody’s leaving tomorrow. I had a blast and I can’t wait to come back.

What’s Up, Blue Venture, What’s Up?

Its amazing how quickly time flies here in the British Virgin Islands. The Blue Venture staff is surprised and dismayed that its already time for the session to start wrapping up. A bit paradoxically, however, it also feels as if we’ve been sailing together for far longer than sixteen days. We’ve been lucky to have such an upbeat fun-loving crew of shipmates. We only hope that we’ve been able to make their journey as memorable as ours has been! We’ve made great progress as a crew over the past few days. Our Neptunes Marco, Luis, Maddie, and Quinlin have been working hard towards their wreck diver specialty certification. They recently completed the certification dive of the course on the Inganous, a tugboat wreck off of Blue Chromis Reef. They’re now permitted to plan and execute their own penetration dives. In their down time, the Neptunes have been fine-tuning their watersports skills. Marco and Luis, more advanced wakeboarders have been working on their tricks and helping out Quin and Maddie as they working to stand up on the board for the very first time. Dolphins Jessica, Aaron, Erin, Will, Alex, and Alexander have turned their attention towards becoming certified science research divers and working on their marine biology projects. We’re excited to hear their presentations. One group has been surveying mooring line reef communities. Another has been studying sea fan growth at depth. When no working on their projects, our Dolphins have been up to various other pursuits. Jessica and Erin have been taking some beautiful photos with the program’s SeaLife underwater cameras. Aaron and Alex helped lead Blue Venture to victory over Mambo and Laurasia in our annual Caribbean Triple Crown Challenge. Will found his niche as a kickball outfielder while Alexander has been exploring his interest in marine biology and debating whether or not to pursue it in the future. All in all, it has been an unforgettable session-from the diving and the sailing to destroying all competitors in inter-boat dance offs. Blue Venturers, if you’re reading this, thanks for a great session. -Love, your staff.

This Is War

Location: The Bight, Norman Island

Today was our last day in port. I can’t get over how quick this trip flew by. Our boat attempted to race back but I’m pretty sure we lost. During dinner one of the sail side boats declared war on us. There were pieces of apple, orange, and cantaloupe all over the deck. We managed to steal one of their dinghies though. I’m pretty sure that factor caused us to win. Today was a an awesome day. I wish it didn’t have to end so soon.

Dive! Dive! Dive!

Location: Great Harbour, Peter Island
Author: Marco L.
We woke up at Great Harbour, Peter (GHP) and started sailing to the Kissing Wrecks after a french toast breakfast. As soon as we got there Neptunes did our wreck dive #3 while Dolphins were diving their last research dive. We got out of the water and had lunch. After, Neptunes dove the last wreck dive which was penetration of a wreck. Then got out of the water and went snorkeling. After that we sailed back to GHP for dinner which was amazing! Sadly Alex and Will are leaving tomorrow, the boat will feel empty without them!

Fun Times on Blue Venture

Location: Great Harbour, Peter Island

Today we woke up and after breakfast we started sailing to West End in which we had some time to look around at port. Then we did a long sail to GHP (Great Harbour, Peter). Dolphins did their research dives while Neptunes dove in the Fearless. After a long day we did the Caribbean Triple Crown between Blue Venture, Mambo No. Five, and Laurasia. Blue Venture won.
