Day 8 – Wreck Dives & Blowfish
Posted: Fri, Aug 5, 2016
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today we woke up at the crack of dawn to hand over our bags of laundry. Later we ate cereal and prepared to descend onto the infamous Rhone Wreck. In case you are not familiar with the Rhone, it was a Royal Mail Ship, deemed unsinkable. Ironically, it was sunk by a hurricane in 1867. The wreck was truly amazing. The reef thrived with vibrant colors and schools of squirrelfish, horse eyed jacks, and other fish. There was a porthole with glass still on it which we rubbed to grant ourselves luck for 7 years. After surfacing, we sailed to where we are now, Great Harbor Peter. After eating our lunch of grilled cheese with ham, cooked by Lucy and Jake, we snorkeled our night dive site. Before night diving, you need to be familiar with your site. This is why we snorkeled. Lucy and I were swimming and found a big blowfish, resting under a rock. For dinner, we enjoyed chicken Caesar Salas and Risotto. It was so good. We are now all preparing for our night dive. Hopefully we will see some interesting wildlife and see how the underwater life works at night. After all, the ocean holds a secret that you only truly can uncover when you are down there experiencing it.
