Staff Update Day 1
Posted: Fri, Jul 29, 2016
Location: West End, Tortola
Lady Aubrey is so excited to welcome her third group of summer 2016 students! After a fantastic first and second sessions, the staff have been spending the last couple days preparing and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our eleven shipmates. We have stocked the boat with dry food, fresh food, PADI open water diving manuals, IYT sailing books, waterski gear, medical supplies, cleaning supplies and everything else necessary to run an awesome trip- now we just need the crew! Our shipmates are from Connecticut, New York, England, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Germany, New Jersey, Switzerland, and South Carolina, and are all part of the Vega (intro to sailing and diving) program. We can’t wait for all the adventures to come! For additional updates during the trip, follow ActionQuest on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat!
Here is an introduction to the crew of Lady Aubrey:
Shannon grew up in England by the sea in the home of the Cornish pasty. She started sailing on an old round the world racing yacht whilst at university and has since gained her RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualification. Studying for her Marine Geography degree helped her learn a lot about the ocean environment, and she enjoys being involved in different conservation efforts. Shannon’s previous jobs include hydrographic surveyor (charting the seabed) and high ropes instructor (swinging around monkey style in trees). Since finishing university Shannon has been sailing in the UK, Australia, and most recently working on yachts in the Caribbean & Bermuda.
Alex (“Wondy”)- dive instructor/mate
Over the past six years Alex has become deeply involved with every water sport imaginable. His biggest hobby currently is diving for dinosaur bones and colonial artifacts in the immense river system of his hometown, Charleston, SC. Alex is currently enrolled at Clemson University and studies Financial Management. He believes that Clemson football is #1 and next season will be the year that they take the National Championship trophy from Alabama. Alex is truly ecstatic about teaching diving this summer and can’t wait to share his knowledge and love of the water with everyone!
Anna grew up in landlocked Western Massachusetts and discovered her love for the sea when she became an ActionQuest shipmate at age 16. After two summers as a shipmate and a year of high school onboard S/Y Ocean Star, she joined the ActionQuest staff in 2000. Anna graduated in 2004 from the University of Vermont with degrees in psychology and sociology and spent four years volunteering as an EMT on a local ambulance. During the year Anna lives in Washington, DC and spends her free time volunteering with a local dog rescue organization.
