Day 12 First Rescue Scenario

Today we woke up and had a great breakfast of oatmeal and Gatorade. Soon after putting away all of the dishes, the Neptune’s left for a dive, while the Rescue’s had a training drill to save Frank and Hank the tanks. We next had some downtime leading up to lunch, which was filled with the Rescues going through their first Emergency First Responder and Rescue Diver manuals. Meanwhile the Neptune’s were either relaxing or helping cook lunch. For lunch we had Tuscan White Bean Soup and almost immediately after we finished cleaning, a rescue scenario started. This was our first scenario, so everyone was really excited. This led to great and terrible things occurring as it made it difficult for some to stick to a single job and resulted in a lot of yelling. This allowed for a tired diver (Taylor, another instructor from Surprise) to become panicked as he heard of his injured friend (Alisa, also an instructor on Surprise) not breathing. This resulted in said panicked diver climbing through the hatch in an attempt to complicate things. In closing this drill, we learned some things we needed to improve upon and ended up with a grade C. We then had some time to calm down and then several hours later we went on a beautiful dive in the Playgrounds, which was the same dive the Neptune’s went on earlier. Finally we went to a beach barbecue on a tiny island. Then, after several hours, we returned to the boat to go to sleep and start again tomorrow.
