We are now half way through our journey, and the staff and crew aboard Second Wind have not only become friends, we have become a strange sort of family. The Neptune students have been working hard on their diving certifications, and have almost achieved their Advanced Open Water. The Dolphins have been getting stuck into their Marine Biology program, and are currently busy designing their own research projects. Since we started this trip, we have made it halfway around the British Virgin Islands. Justin has become a full-flegged Open Water SCUBA Diver, while Alec has re-kindled an old love of diving, rediscovering his skills and appreciation after two years without diving. Karyln has proven her excellent water skiing abilities and Corey made friends with a very inquisitive Remora. Liz loved getting stuck into the starfish dissection and Jules is proving herself when it come to planning research programs. More recently, Logan showed off his mapping skill while diving the wreck of the Fearless. Chris C has particularly enjoyed the first half of his Wreck Diver Certification and has shown loads of enthusiasm and skill as a wreck diver – even on deep wrecks like the RMS Rhone. Harris demonstrated his excellent sailing skills assisting out skipper Matt on a dawn sail out to Anegada, with Grace took the helm on the long sail back to Tortola. Ottilie has developedher diving skills and improved her buoyancy. Chris S, has shown off her artistic side developing an excellent taxonomic journal to the creatures we have seen. We still have a long way to go and a lot to look forward to, such as the Neptune’s getting to penetrate the wreck of the Beta and the Dolphin’s are going to watch a Shark dissection as well as completing and presenting their research project. All of our students are also just one dive away from being certified Night Diver. We are getting ready for another action packed week here aboard Second Wind. Keep following the blog for updates, and we’ll see you soon world!
