Day 9: The Rhone

Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today was one of the best days so far! We awoke to some of Marina’s fantastic music and ate a simple breakfast of cereal and orange slices. Sometimes the simplest are the best. After breakfast we sailed across choppy waters to Salt Island. Along the way some crew members hung out on the trampoline as the waves rolled under the boat. Once at Salt Island we dove my favorite dive site of the trip — the RMS Rhone! It was fantastic. We saw eagle rays as well as a giant barracuda lurking in the darkness of the sunken ship. After the dive we sailed a short way to Salt Island Bay and enjoyed a very beautiful hike. The hike was short but the view from the top of the mountain was magnificent. Once we returned to the oat we enjoyed lunch and relaxed. After relaxing for a couple of hours we went for a snorkel to scope our our night dive site. We spotted a small turtle during our snorkel and decided to try to catch and tag it. After deciding on a plan we executed it perfectly. After some measurements we tagged and set free the turtle. Finally we set up our gear and ate dinner. We then immediately suited up and got in the water. We dove and saw a giant octopus. It was so cool! After surfacing and putting away our gear we had a short talk and went to bed. It was an amazing day!
