Travel Day to the Bat House

It was a long day of travel…we took the Greyhound from Townsville to Cairns and then transferred to a private bus to head up to the Daintree Rainforest. There was a bit of an eerie feeling when we all had stepped off the bus into the bat house. We were in the middle of the rainforest and far from civilization! The Bat House is a well known Australian rainforest conservation place. We had an 8 hour bus ride on which a few students suffered from car sickness (the roads were pretty windy!). The entire time of the trip, Nick and I (who somehow magically had Wifi on a moving bus) were Googling pictures of pasta. Seems rough right? Well everything quickly turned around for the best after we stepped off the bus. Once we accepted the fact that there would be no hot water or other creature comforts for the next 4 days, we were able to think super positively and then coincidentally found out we were having pasta for dinner! (Which is all I’d been thinking about for the entire day). Nick and I decided that we were going to go to Italy at some point just to test every kind of noodle– I’m a big bow-tie fan but Nick likes the tennis ones that look like wagon wheels. One of the funny Aussie foods we’ve tested is Vegemite. It was horrible. We like Kate, but she’s confused about Vegemite. I couldn’t get that stuff down if it was smothered in marshmallow fluff and chocolate syrup. Tomorrow we’ll start our service work with Hugh (owner/operator) at the Bat House!
