When I look back on our voyage I can finally see how far we have come as a crew but also as individuals. There have been many ups and downs during this adventure but each one I feel has taught us more about ourselves and each other. As I think back to the first day with Haley as our skipper, sailing out of West End I think few of us really knew what we were in for. Many of us have found a new passion, like Kali becoming an open water diver, or Lucy and Sarah working on their marine biology projects. Arjun has found his talents as a helmsman, working with Nacho and Dan to win our impromptu race with Distant Drums. It has been extremely rewarding to see the crew coming together and new friendships made. To see people come out of their shells and express their joy at being on AQ has been extremely fulfilling. Joe has grown so much in the last few weeks that he’s hardly recognizable as the boy that came. There were several shipmates who have been here before but I think each would agree that every year’s experience is unique. Lydia has developed her diving and now seems more out of place on land than in the water, whilst Alyssa was the glue that held the boat together. I am so proud that Lindsay managed to achieve her qualifications despite being sick for part of the trip. If anything needed to be done on board Matt always stood up to be counted. I think Alex may have found his next calling as a sailor, as he was always involved and even stayed during shore time to help out. A huge thank you must go to my staff, Jin and Jess for their hard work throughout the trip. As our time comes to an end I feel blessed to have met and interacted with the crew on Mahi Mahi. It has certainly been a life altering three weeks and I hope it stays in the memories of all of us who have experienced it. Fair winds and calm seas, out.
