As our voyage comes full circle and we are back on the dock at West End, it’s incredible to look at our boat full of people that started this trip as strangers and ended as a cohesive crew of sailors. The past ten days were filled with a hike to Mt. Sage, the highest point in the Virgin Islands, an awesome dive on the wreck of the Rhone, some open water diver certifications, and a sand castle competition that, sadly, was not won by our rendition of a “cube” as modern art. Jackson, Will, Eduardo, and Kevin, all open water students of mine, have become wonderful divers. They are all extremely comfortable under water, which they proved to me in our final dive together, by means of an underwater dance competition. Josh, still our resident Knot King (now with several different colors of lashing line after our trip to Road Town), has also become quite the helmsman. Guillaume has additionally been working on the helm, and skippered the boat during our first race this session against the other 5 monohulls. Ben, Christian, and Harrison are doing fabulously as open water divers, as their dive instructor Tor tells me. They still remain my go-to boys on board if I need a hand with anything. Having overcome the turbulence accompanying any group of 12 strangers thrown onto a 50 foot boat together, Laurasia has finished this journey closer than ever. I can’t stress how proud I am of each and every one of these shipmates. Though Liam, Tucker, and I are so sad to see them go, I hope everyone reading this is excited to hear all the regaling stories of their adventures these past three weeks.
