Staff Training Day 2

This morning we started off by gathering upstairs at Pusser’s for our first formal meeting as a full staff. After a review of our forty years of history running educational programs for teenagers, we delved into the specifics of our staff guidelines. Mike challenged the group to consider what traits and factors make for a successful staff member within our program. After a lively discussion about leadership, mentoring, role modeling, and professionalism, we moved into program policies and the start of many safety discussions. After lunch the new staff members participated in a Lifeworks Forum with Mike, while others helped move and stow gear on the boats, hung ActionQuest flags, and launched our last two dinghies. Later everyone split into groups on the monohulls and catamarans for one more practical training session. At sunset we gathered on the dock for a delicious BBQ dinner!
